I was born in Redcliffe, then moved back to NZ. Having lived in Aussie for 12 years, I have proudly supported the Dolphins at every game or event. Upon deciding to leave Aussie, I wanted to do a final trip to Redcliffe, and imagine my excitement when it turns out that there is an entire building dedicated to the Dolphins. We walked at 7.25pm to have dinner, we were greeted by a worker who was Maori, and we excitedly told him the story, and asked him how much membership was. He told us and said we needed our DL's. My partner misheard and said he didn't want to sign up, but you needed DL to get it. All good my partner was going to get his wallet from the car, the guy said the jandals weren't allowed on entry after 7.30. We asked what the time was and it was 7.27, he then said that by the time my partner got his wallet it would be past 7.30. We were all already in the building. Pretty stink after telling him how big a fan I am, my last trip before leaving etc, but he seemed pretty hell-bent on not letting us in. So, we were gutted but we're not going to let it ruin our trip. Then we walk out, and a Maori lady walks past in jandals, we told her that you aren't allowed in with jandals we just got denied for it. She just laughed at us, and continued walking straight up to the guy. We watched from outside like a hungry child's faced up against a restaurants window, who happily smiled, greeted her and helped her sign in. What the heck, we thought. This was out and out different treatment, because of our race. Then we watched an an elderly man walk up with Jandals, allowed straight in. I am absolutely guttered that we were treated that way, we were nothing but polite, and absolutely excited to be in a whole Dolphin themed place. I thought Dolphin supporters were allowed to be all different demographics. Unfortunately, this was obviously double standard, the fact it happened with my favourite teams restaurant is a kick in the face to my last...

Read moreUp until last night I was a member of Dolphins. Last night I went in for a drink with a mate and showed my licence on my phone, which is where I keep all my ID and has never been rejected in the last FIVE years I've been doing so. Including the TMR! But it's illegal at Dolphins? Right. Some prepubescent power-tripping kid tells me it's not legal but so long as we didn't play the pokies it was fine. It actually is a legally accepted form of presenting ID. I tried explaining the same to this guy who could only repeat 'it's policy'. So it's policy to go against a legally accepted when he motioned for his bodyguard, like I, a 5'5 woman trying to have an intelligent conversation with a kid whose face couldn't have been more glazed over had he been a doughnut. So now I have two people not allowing me to explain that as a CARD-CARRYING (except for last night) MEMBER OF THE CLUB they probably wouldnt have allowed me to join in the first place had my ID been illegal. Not liking logic much, he ended up denying me access altogether. So instead of making a few bucks profit off me like you do every time I go, these two power tripping kids guaranteed it'll be going somewhere else. Also, if you're going to teach your staff it's fine to claim something is illegal when you clearly have no clue what you're talking about. Really appreciate the dampener these guys put on the one night out I've had out after months of grieving when a kind word would have gone a much longer way. i hope being the big men who are in charge of who is or is not allowed in at a local pub is everything you...
