Date/time of visit: 23 March 2024 @ 2:30pm We stopped here for a very enjoyable lunch after exploring the summit of Mt Wellington. We ordered off the specials board - rsmall oast of the day (pork belly with crackling), and the braised lamb pie. Both were excellent. We considered the "small" roast to be quite large, with a generous selection and serving of vegetables. The pork and crackling were wonderful. The braised lamb pie was delicious - great flavour. Yum! The venue was cosy and I could easily having a wonderful, heart warming lunch here in the middle of winter. We visited on a mild autumn day - ecerything was great. Price and service were excellent.

Beautiful views and meals. Vegetarian and vegan options available. It's beautiful when you walk in and the fire is roaring and it's cold and rainy outside. Unfortunately, we were not offered a high chair for our little one, and she had to sit on my lap. It wasn't until we were leaving that one of the staff pulled one out from the back for another family, so I've noted to ask for a high chair next time we go. I also ordered a mulled wine, which tasted tangy, sour and off, a little dissappoing. Overall, it is still a nice dining experience.

I, with the Hobart Trail Runners, did a Wednesday night run along the Pipeline Track at Fern Tree, then we came over to the Tavern for a beer, an interview with one of Australia's top trail runners and some dinner. The tavern is the BEST venue for a gathering like this. The guys are super friendly, they always make us feel like home, the atmosphere is your classic Australian pub, and the venue just drips with history. Anyone that gets anywhere near Fern Tree needs to have a beer and a meal at the Fern Tree Tavern.

I basically never give 1 star reviews, so a business would have to have beyond poor customer service for me to do so. Here’s why I’m putting this one. After a long day of hiking on Mount Wellington with my brother, we were absolutely exhausted and wanted to purchase a meal or at least something to drink as well as the fact we were there to meet a distant family member we hadn’t seen in years. When we got in and sat down, we thought it was ok, until we were shouted at to get out by a man I believe to be the name of David, as I forgot my brother hadn’t turned 18 yet. I was unaware there was even a regulation/law stating an under 18 year old couldn’t be at a pub, we weren’t even buying any alcoholic beverages. We were told it was because they weren’t serving any meals, even though it was midday. Anyhow, we would have been fine with moving outside, but the manner in which the man shooed us away was incredibly rude, it honestly made us feel like we were pests in his business. After that, we went outside which was an absolute mess, there was almost only a single table which was somewhat clean, every other table had plates, glasses and rubbish on it, we were outside for a bit before wanting to order some soft drinks as we were significantly dehydrated from the 4+ hours of hiking. As my brother and I walked in to order two lemonades, we were shouted at in such a demeaning tone once again and were told as he was 18 he would have to wait outside in the sun and I could order. I ordered the two drinks and tried to laugh it off and even tried asking what the man’s favourite drink was and other questions to break the ice and make him less angry. However, he still had such an angry expression on his face and looked like he hated us being there. As someone who has worked in retail before, let me tell you, this is the opposite of what you’re supposed to do, even a four year old would treat customers with more respect than what we received. This disgusting service will make customers walk away. The man that we met at this pub today is nothing but a pure disgrace to Tasmania and Australia as a country. I hope the man that served us today gets the help that he requires and learns to treat people with dignity and respect, as it seems his parents forgot to teach him those vital values as a child. Even on my worst day, I would never treat people like he treated my brother and I. I will certainly not be coming back anytime soon and recommend you do the same until the service is entirely...

Stopped in with my wife on a Friday evening at what used to be our favorite pub when we lived nearby. We were "greeted" by a hipster-looking fellow behind the bar who thought it appropriate to make ridiculing comments about me as I looked into the dining area. We were seated by a pleasant enough waitress and given menus of their few offerings: a brief one page of entries with most of that being under the headings "nibbles", "children's", or "smaller plates". Two specials on the wall and six larger meals on the menu are what your "dinner for an adult" options are. Not a single one of them sounded interesting to either my wife or I. In fact, none of them sounded even remotely pub-like, but nearly every single item on the menu was "gluten free" or "vegan". Apparently this is all more interesting to the other diners who were mostly young families with small children, which made the ambience one of "after hours at the creche". With much disappointment my wife and I decided to leave without ordering anything and spent the drive to other dining options lamenting the loss of a once-fine pub.

Review from 2013: New owners have completely rejuvenated what was a tired dismal pub and it's now bright, cheerful, and welcoming. The food is excellent and comes in generous portions, the menu is diverse and includes fresh fish and seafood as well as some Italian dishes in addition to more traditional pub fare. Family friendly and hosting some great entertainment, it's definitely a place...

Being mothers day the tavern was bursting with patrons. The young wait staff doing their best to keep us all content with drinks and were very pleasant. After sitting for half an hour we were told we had to vacate the two tables we had booked within the hour. Our lunch orders had not even been taken. When they did finally arrive, one order was wrong. Sent it back.

While my meal was delicious, others around me weren't. I watched as the steak on the sandwich would not budge with the knife. In the end hands were used to try and gnaw her way through the very tough piece of meat. Burger meats dry and burnt, dry vegetarian patty. Over cooked calamari, and to top it off, hair was found on another plate under the food. Finally after a few reminders, the mixed up meal arrived after we had all finished. With no time to relax and eat it my 92 year old mother ended up only eating a small portion and ended up taking it in a container to finish it off later as time was up to leave our tables. Toilet...disgusting...one toilet to serve over 100 patrons. The queue lined up between our two tables for most of our time there. Overall it was not as nice as I was hoping. I will not be...
