Silver Falls is the most accessible of all waterfalls on Mount Wellington. Parking is available near the Fern Tree Tavern or public transport is available. Entry is via the bower opposite the tavern. The walk along the pipeline track is billiard table flat until you reach the Silver Falls track. This track has a steady but very manageable grade up to the falls. While a very pleasant walk all year round it is during periods of heavy snow that this location is at its best. Some real magical scenes of snow on the man ferns. If tacking in winter rug up as it can become very cold.

Read morePretty easy to access, it’s mostly flat with some parts going uphill but not tooooo crazy. I think the beauty of the waterfall is directly proportional to the amount of rain there has been prior to the visit, as I can see amazing pictures in other reviews and it wasn’t that impressive when we went there! Anyways, for the type of walk and the easy access when parking at fern tree car park it’s ok but I would be a bit disappointed if I hiked all the way down from Mt Wellington just with the intention of seeing this waterfall. Read moreIt was a beautiful sheltered, short walk from Fern Tree Park at the foothills of Kunanyi (Mt Wellington). The walk to Silver Falls is a lovely, easy, grade 1 hike that takes around 30 to 40 minutes return. During the Autumn, various mushroom species pop up amongst the mossy rocks and ferns.
