You seriously may pass away from natural causes before you get served here.

I regard this as the place where time stands still. The restaurant is divided across two train carriages, with the kitchen in between. I arrived there on Boxing Day, and found that the cafe itself was empty bar one small family group.

This place is tiny, so there's no mistaking when you enter with the bang on the door. I just wanted a coffee, so I sat down and waited.

And waited.

And waited.

A couple of looks from the kitchen staff, but still I waited.

A young fellow in a chefs apron passed me by, but still I waited.

A raised hand to the kitchen, and still I waited.

I got out the phone, played a few games, and still waited.

After 30 minutes, that was enough. I'm of the opinion that if you have to go up to cafe staff and remind them to do their job, then your not likely to enjoy the subsequent coffee. So, I left.

All I can think is that none of the staff wanted to be there, and the best way they could get home early was by simply not serving anyone.

Other than that, I noted on the menu that the pancakes were stupidly expensive.

The Margate Train is a great concept with heaps of potential, but over the years, the carriages have been leased by a succession of hobby-shopkeepers that really don't do the...

Terrible Service, average food (overhyped), not a good ambience. The pancake train is very unique place, you would love to be there when you go to Margate and that’s what we did. However, we didn’t feel welcome at all, maybe they don’t welcome a south Asian people in the same way they do for locals or others😕 Apart from that, we at least expected food will win our heart but no, the pancake 🥞 tasted average, quality wasn’t great for the price paid. We were literally stunned by the service we got while on the table, zero acknowledgement. I don’t just love to review but I love to capture the moments too for my blog and the vibe we felt in this restaurant didn’t give me the smile to do so. To sum up, I don’t feel good to post this review about The Pancake Train because this is one of my listed restaurants I always wanted and looked forward to go to but I can’t be a fake reviewer and I post what we’ve experienced in that particular place. At least, make sure you welcome your customers and provide great service because that’s something which will bring your customers back to your place with a happy experience. Btw, you can find way better eggs Benedict even in local cafes...

We didn't know we should have made a booking in advance but we ended up there this morning hoping for a breakfast. The waitress in green top told us we had to come back 30 minute later for a table despite a lot of free tables in the front and back carts. We were happy to wait for 30 minutes though. However, the couple right behind us, who told the waitress that they did not have booking either, were seated shortly after being told off the train. Same happened to the another two girls later. We asked if there was a free table after 30 minute waiting, and the same waitress told us that it was only available in the rear cart. We went and seated, but then she came over and told us to sit at a table where the seats were stained and with crumbs, because the other two free tables have been reserved. She insisted that we could only sit there. We did not order but left. Honesty and respect are appreciated instead of wasting people's time with the discriminative games. We came with goodwill with a hope for a breakfast on the...

The restaurant is set in an interesting place, inside an old locomotive carriages. This in itself was a novelty. At time of ordering the restaurant operator suggested we try the special lemon curd and lemon meringue pan cake. So we did. When it came it looked brilliant, white on white, with shards spread on the plate, very artistic. Then when I took the first spoon full, all background sound faded away and the world paused for the next 15 minutes. The pancake was fluffy and thick with the perfect amount of bite to it, and the lemon curd and the zests, played a symphony of citrus notes. A harmonious ballet between creamyness and lemon flavours, the balance was seemless. When I returned to planet earth, the plate in front of me was empty. What a journey. Dear gentleman who made this experience possible, my humble request to you is to never stop making this. Let those, who may be reading my note, also experience what I did. As for me, when I come back to Tasmania, I'll request to go on this same journey once more please. Thanks.
