My wife and I attended an appointment before walking to our nearest lunch option, Cafe 63.
The cafe is massive, with lots of indoor and outdoor seating. We were instantly greeted and allowed to select our own table, before water was quickly served and regular visits made to determine if we were ready to order.
The menu, as often raved about by my kids (regular visitors to this franchise) undoubtedly has the largest selection I've ever seen. You'll see people sitting around reading newspapers before realising that's actually the multi-page menu! In all honesty, this usually presents a red flag for me, as I feel safer when options are limited but prepared to perfection. Nevertheless, it was time to test the theory and order.
My wife selected the Red Hat (crepes, pork belly, BBQ sauce, poached eggs, hollandaise sauce), while I chose the Shearer's Classic (potato rosti, lamb's fry, bacon, onion rings, gravy, poached eggs, hollandaise sauce, toast). We also added some sweet potato fries with aioli (asked for extra, received extra, hugely appreciated!) and hot drinks.
Everything was quickly prepared and served. My wife was caught a little off-guard by the flavour variety on her plate, which is not a criticism but failure on her part to truly assess what she'd selected. My meal was tasty and substantial in size, the only negative being the lamb's fry which was somewhat overcooked and thus dry, but it wasn't a deal-breaker as everything else was lovely. Unlike many other cafes, where ingredients may be conservatively supplied, our meals were loaded with each item; bacon, lamb, pork, eggs were all amply provided. The sweet potato chips were excellent, salty, crispy outside, creamy inside.
A special mention must go to the lady running the day's operations (owner, manager?). Her service perfectly balanced informal banter and humour with professionalism and knowledge. She also downsized our sweet potato chips as she knew that's all we'd need, considering the size of our meals. A pleasant change from the usual 'buy more!' so genuinely appreciated.
Last but not least, the pricing was incredibly reasonable. We walked out verging on over-full, having just enjoyed two large meals, great chips, and decent hot drinks for an exact $60.
Overall, Cafe 63 Underwood provided a positive experience, with service, meals/drinks, pricing and timeliness all commendable. We would not...
Read moreFood was horrible. We went there last night for father's Day dinner. We were the only people in the restaurant at 7:45. I ordered steak. The steak was horrible. I asked for well done. It was not well done and tasted like it had been microwaved. (Rib fillet) Did not taste fresh at all. Mash potato was dry and hard. Gravey was amazing. My daughter ordered fish. Was very over cooked and dark chips were very over cooked and like rocks. There was no lemonade left. Offered juice instead. No pineapple juice. There was no chilli garnish on the plate. When the lady asked the chef for a chilli on the plate as it goes with the orange. He wasn't to happy about that. We had to tell excuse me everytime we wanted something and waited a while for service. After our meal we wanted to order a cheese cake and that was it. They said we couldn't have a cheese cake. The kitchen closed early. Then they said you can have a ice cream there is 2 ice creams left. We said could we have 1 ice cream with caramel on-top. She said I can get 1 ice cream but I don't know if I can put caramel on it? I said just on-top please. And she said I don't know if I'm allowed. We were very nice about it and didn't make a fuss. But we were literally the only people in the restaurant from 7:45-closeing. I think there was no excuse for the food to be so bad and the service not great. The place was lovely and clean. Definitely felt like we were just in the way of...
Read moreI have never been to a cafe 63 establishment but have heard many things about them. For one the menu is extensive. When I say extensive, I was shocked and took roughly 10mins to decide what I want! With that being said they do offer heaps of options and can cater to a variety of different people.
The food was delicious! Everything tasted fresh and the presentation was lovely! The chicken schnitzel wasn't dry and the mushroom sauce was creamy and had a good consistency to it. The pasta was creamy and coated well with the sauce. The size you see in the photo provided is a half portion. I also got a vanilla thickshake which is your stock standard thickshake!
The staff on the day were friendly and patient with us! They came over three times to make sure we were ready to order! They all smiled, greeted and thanked us during my visit.
The space is spacious with indoor and outdoor seating. Hopefully this place stays as I would love to come back to try their...
