To say that management here is organisationally challenged would be a gross understatement. Since my last visit here, there has been some degree of change both to the physical infrastructure and apparently to policy and procedures. The restaurant has had some superficial refurbishment, a new menu, and a new queuing system. The new queuing system is a bit of a disaster, in my opinion. There are two entries. One is through the lounge, and the other is from the gaming area. I entered via the gaming area. Using this route, you first encounter a queuing area to the cashier. I queued there, and after a fairly long wait, considering there were only two people in front of me in the queue, I reached the cashier, who asked me what table I was seated at. I must have looked at her a bit blankly before saying that I had expected that she would allocate me a table. She then directed me to a sign further along the corridor, which was turned sidewise from my perspective, making it unreadable from my vantage point. I had a brief conversation with her about how silly that arrangement was, and she seemed aware of the problem but powerless to do anything about it. She actually seemed a little embarrassed by it. In any event, I went and queued up at the sign and eventually received a table allocation. During this process, I quietly and politely asked if I might speak to the manager when they were available, and the server said that she would get one to come to my table. In the meantime, I went back and queued up at the cashier again and was eventually able to order. I asked what the roast of the day was and was told that it was pork. I asked if it came with crackling and was told no, it didn't as it was not pork belly (as though roast pork belly were the only cut that one might expect to receive crackling with). I decided to order the pork sweet and sour instead. A manager came to speak with me, and I raised the issue of the queuing system with him. Unfortunately, the young man (he was certainly well under thirty in my opinion) was not very helpful he seemed more concerned with inconvenience to the staff than inconvenience to his customers. His attitude, in fact, bordered on arrogance, and it was clear that he had no intention of doing anything about the issues I had raised. I told him that was OK and I was only bringing it to his attention and left the matter there. My meal arrived, and to be honest, I was more than a little disappointing. The size of the serving was underwhelming. I could almost cover the entire plate with one outspread hand. There were about six cubes of pork barely larger than dice. These were a little rubbery in texture, and to my astonishment, more than half of them were cold! I normally expect battered pork in a sweet and sour to have a crispy outer layer. This was not the case here. The pork had obviously spent some time in a chiller after being battered and fried, and, as a result, the out layer was unpleasantly doughy and soggy, with no crispness whatever. I asked the server if the pork in my meal had been cooked fresh or simply reheated. After some to-ing and fro-ing, she managed to confirm with the chef that it had not been prepared fresh but had, in fact, been fried up that morning. While I have no food safety issues with this, it definitely has a very negative effect on the quality of the dish. The vegetables in the stir-fry were of good quality and well cooked. The sauce was also quite reasonable, and these parts of the dish were at least hot. The serve of rice was quite good, too. The rice formed at least half of the total dish, which, on a plate this small, demonstrates just how miserly the serve of sweet and sour pork was. Overall, it was not a very pleasant or even satisfying experience. This is sad because this used to be quite a pleasant place to eat and also represented good...

Read moreNice venue. Band was great. Music before band was extremely loud which made it hard to have a conversation.
I ordered a gluten free meal and was asking the staff in the cafe about gluten free options, specifically a few different menu items. The chips that came with the meal, however, were not gluten free. She didn't think to mention it despite the conversation that I needed to be gluten free. As the meal was listed as such, I considered that it would be so.
I was told upon querying the staff member clearing tables, that it was in the fine print and that I should have ordered the other option.
She did refer me to the manager, who was lovely to talk to, who said he'd chat to the staff to raise awareness, which I was happy with, and he explained it was in the fine print, however acknowledged that it should have been common sense to the staff.
Amends were made by offering a free dessert to both my husband and myself, which we weren't expecting but did appreciate.
I just wanted to educate them, as I would hate it to happen to a coeliac or someone anaphylactic. I should have been more thorough asking.
By the time the evening was over, I was in a considerable amount of pain that could have been avoided.
The meal was rather small and not especially cheap.
The staff were all very friendly. Discounts are worth the membership fee.
Overall, I would certainly go back again and would be more careful ordering or more likely, eat before I go.
Band was great. Sound/acoustics was good...
