We visited your establishment for lunch, only to be told there were no lunch specials available – despite it being a Tuesday. Your website advertises $18 lunch specials from Monday to Thursday. I'll focus on the Beloved Schnitzel, a pub/club staple.
The special promises a schnitzel, chips, and salad for $18.
We checked the menu. The same chicken schnitzel now costs $31. Who would pay $31 for a schnitzel, chips, and salad?
As a local, I know the Soldiers Club and Catalina Club offer (non lunch special) schnitzels for around $24. Hell the Catalina Club will even throw on some garlic sauce and monster tiger prawns with their schnitzel for $31.
Defeated and unsatisfied, we opted for the Pumpkin Patch Flatbread instead, I was so traumatised I turned vegan momentarily. I wholeheartedly regret this lapse in judgement and it is something I must live with now.
But fate intervened, upon ordering, we were told that flatbreads and pizzas are no longer available – a sign apparently confirmed this. We left, with half our party heading to the Catalina to enjoy their succulent schnitzel.
The other half, including myself, went to the Moruya Bowling Club, where we savored a delicious schnitzel with gravy, chips, and salad for just $11.
Maula Bay Bowling Club, step up your game!
Also support the locals who support you through the quieter seasons.
Long live the schnitty!

Read moreDuring holiday periods the club kitchen and support staff cannot cope. Need to invest in online booking system for appointment. The food court is open spaced and feels like eating in open hall rather than restaurant. Secondly need to invest in wifi portable buzzers to know when your table is ready rather than people constantly asking. There is zero to 1 bar non existent mobile coverage with all carriers / networks, so you have to use WiFi for calls. There is free WiFi but Malua Bowling club only receives 0.01 Mbps or zero up or down at any time?? Club have either purchased residential grade WiFI access points which are not supporting 802.11 ac & n MIMO 2.4 and 5GHz or not enterprise access points as well as have not designed WiFi for maximum 25 users per WiFi access point each with Gigabit ports and hubs ( need at least 8 in open areas) . In addition have not throttled maximum 3Mbps per user as well as have not purchased enough bandwidth from their broadband carrier / provider. They need to purchase a wireless protocol analyzer to work out what is going . If you can't provide 2 - 3 Mbps down and 1 - 2 up per user, per WiFi access point in busy times at lunch and evening times then don't provide the WiFi service at all. So in summary, no WiFi, eating in overly bright lighting like a food hall, no external or TV entertainment very boring place.. but Karaoke was...
Read moreI finally went to the club last night to support the local after the reopening. No music, very loud people noise. The service was lousy. 2 hours to wait for dinner. To be fair, they did advise when we order that there would be an hour wait. But 2 was unacceptable. There was no apology or anything when the food finally did arrive. Food was ok but one quarter of tomato and one tiny slice of cucumber in my salad with some lettuce is not enough. The pasta seafood pasta dish had about 3 prawns and 3 half pieces of calamari. Schnitzel was small compared to most other club schnitzels. I expected more for the price we paid. The line for getting a drink was also very long and slow. I was disappointed because I was hoping it was better than the Chinese that used to be there. Don't think I will be returning...
