Austin Road Fish & Chips — Restaurant in Melbourne

I wrote a review 3 years ago about how gross their “addictive” Gravy is, but had to delete it so I could write this new review. The flying fish was closed today and they are always great and we hear so many good reviews about Austin road and my mum said last time she ate there was great so thought we would give it a go. I ordered what I would get from the flying fish which would normally fill me. The potato cakes were flat there was more batter then potato and they were small they were over cooked the fish bites tasted weird same as the scallops. I asked if they had mars bars in batter they do but I wasn’t told they were bite sized so I got a tiny one if I knew that I would of ordered more it also had to much sugar on it again more sugar then mars bar, chips also had a weird powdery texture and I’m still hungry I don’t get the hype over this place I...

Have to say the food is always fantastic, but just too many mistakes with my orders. Doesn't matter whether I phone order for pickup or get delivered. My last order was through Uber eats, missing 3 of the 4 scallops I paid for, rang up, they told me to order through Uber eats again and just order 1 .chicken nugget, but they would sort out on their end and deliver 3 scallops and bottle of drink as an apology, did that, ended up with someone else's entire meal that I did not want. Rang again, told me to keep order and next time I came in would get the scallops I originally ordered, however, I ended up paying for 2 U Uber eats deliveries and so much food it couldn't be eaten. WILL NOT BE COMING BACK!!

This is our local fish and chip that we have been coming to for years and cannot fault the food at all.

Tonight there was a long wait, which is OK - this is not normal for them and things happen, people call in sick, sometimes it might just be busier than anticipated etc.

What's not OK, is that the boss then proceeded to yell at his staff in the front of the shop and then continued out the back (where every word could still be heard). Myself and the other customers were left awkwardly looking at each other.
