Common Room. — Restaurant in Melbourne

If I could give negative 5 stars, I absolutely would. This is without a doubt one of the worst dining experiences I have ever had.

My friend and I arrived at around 1:10 PM and placed our order at 1:15 PM. We ordered just a burger and a brekkie roll. By 1:40 PM, we were still waiting, so I politely asked the waitress if they could hurry a little since I had to leave by 2:00.

Her response? “We have a large order of 9 people that has to be served first. If you are in a hurry, you should have mentioned it when you ordered.” Excuse me? That response was unbelievably rude. She spoke to me as if I was the one at fault. There was no apology, no effort to empathize, just a cold face and a completely unprofessional attitude.

First of all, how would anyone expect that a burger and a brekkie roll would take over 30 minutes? In any normal restaurant, that should be out within 20 minutes max. Second, if there was only one table of 9 ahead of us and the cafe has more than 50 seats, does that mean if there are 15 customers in the cafe, you should expect to wait two hours for food?

By 1:55 PM, we still had nothing. I had enough and asked the chef directly through the kitchen window how long it would take. He said at least another 15 minutes. That means it would have taken at least 1 hour and 10 minutes just to make two simple items.

I told the waitress to cancel my burger and brekkie roll because I could not wait any longer. And guess what? She cancelled my friend’s order as well. She cancelled the entire order without even confirming. I could not believe it. It is like she has water in her brain.

This place has zero customer service and absolutely no sense of urgency. The waitress has the worst attitude I have seen in hospitality. Save yourself the time and frustration and do not come here. You are better off...

I recently visited The Common Room in Ringwood (across the road from Yarra Valley Grammar school) and had a delightful experience.

This spot was absolutely gorgeous. We came here for breakfast during the school holidays, and it is so cute. You can sit indoors or outdoors. Even sitting outdoors, we weren't forgotten about. The waitress came out to take our order at a perfect time. The food and drinks didn't take too long to come out either. The staff were really friendly. I got the smashed avo with an egg. Was absolutely delicious. Everything put on the plate complemented each other. The chips were also perfectly crispy and cooked. Couldn't fault them. My partner got the veg breakfast burger.
