Contributor Justine and I headed down to Kofi Beans on Croydon's Main Street to check out their wide variety of vegan and gluten-free options. #croydon #food #vegan #glutenfree #cafe #coffee #victoria #melbourne

I loved the middle eastern style decor, very unique for a cafe interior and not only did it really differentiate the place it created a fabulous atmosphere. I took the opportunity to try a blueberry latte, never having seen one on a menu before. The flavour was quite subtle when compared to other speciality lattes but the drinks menu was very well rounded from Turkish coffee to Vietnamese iced coffee to shakes and juices and everything in between. A couple next to us were also sitting and enjoying a bottle of wine. Food wise we went with one of the specials breakfast bruschetta with roast tomatoes, feta, roquette, beetroot pesto, poached eggs and sweet balsamic on Turkish pide. I liked this dish but it wasn’t what I expected. Bruschetta conjured images to me of diced tomatoes with balsamic atop it. I didn’t find the balsamic on the plate and the two tomato halves were on the side of the plate. The feta was also on the salad rather than the bread but the eggs were perfectly poached and the beetroot pesto extremely delicious. My husband had the fritter dish and I tucked into the waffle meringue pie which was one of the best waffle dishes I’ve had. The lemon curd and torched meringue were ingenious toppings and the berry injectors gave the presentation further pizzazz and also added another flavour dimension. I was also impressed with their extensive vegan menu. Suffice to say this suburban cafe vastly exceeded my expectations.

Came here for brunch. The menu looked great, plenty of options for vegetarians, vegans and omnis. Ordered (can't remember what it was called) a falafel on a pita with poached eggs, and lots of different flavours. Really delicious. The falafels are crunchy, perfectly cooked eggs, so really nice texturally. The dukka and pomegranate added more interest with crunch and sweetness. Good amount of food too. The price is a little high, but happy to pay that for what you get. Also ordered a salmon benedikt. Was really nice with the delicious benedikt sauce. The salmon tasted fresh and the eggs cooked perfectly. The coffee was good, tasted nice. Nothing to rave about but no complaints. My only issue was the waitress! She wasn't very friendly, and I find a friendly wait person can make a huge difference to cafe experiences. Definitely encourages customers to return. We had a few requests (to move tables once one was free - it was busy and we were placed on the community table and the seats were very uncomfortable, and new glasses as the first ones given to us were dirty), and she just seemed like we were bothering her, despite us being as polite as possible. That aside, I would encourage anyone thinking about visiting this place to go!

Came in with a group of friends to eat outside this arvo. The girls inside were lovely (the girl taking orders and the girl making coffee) but the male working was horrendous - was rude and came off as unwilling to help and uncaring in the way he spoke and acted with us. Here's a run down of our stay: he came out with a 'large cuppachino' and asked if any of us ordered it. I was the only one drinking coffee so I replied: No, I ordered a mocha. His reply? Oh. That sounds right, that's what this is. over half an hour before closing he implied he didn't want us sitting outside at all despite no one saying we couldnt. my friend ordered a cake to eat outside and it was brought out in a take away container. She requested a fork and plate to eat it here. The fork came out but she asked two or three times for a plate. When the male worker finally brought it over about 5 mins later it was dusty and needed to be wiped off. another friend was given a dirty mug and had to request a new one. a fork was given to our last member but it was given on a dirty napkin and the male worker basically dropped it on the table before walking away. ordered chips from next door and was told we weren't allowed to eat it at our table (wouldn't have been the end of the world if he weren't so rude I'm telling us that, especially considering we paid for food here as well)

My foccacia was delicious but if he is the standard of service there don't expect me to come back. A table sitting near us watched as well and seemed just as amazed as we were by all this. A little more focus on the customer would go a long way as your food/coffee Is actually good but not worth the...

Have been to Kofi beans many many times over the years and whilst the service has gotten far worse over the past year, still kept going to support a local business. Was extremely disappointed today when I went for breakfast and whilst eating my meal I swallowed something sharp and a big chunk of sharp plastic had fallen off the eggs.. I then inspected further and found more chunks of plastic and egg shells stuck in the fried eggs which I hadn't seen earlier as they were covered. When I took it in to show staff it was taken off me by a waitress who just looked at it and said ew then passed it over to another staff member who went off into the kitchen. I went back to my table as no-one was saying anything to me, not even an apology, and he came out with the plate of food and said ‘it’s just plastic from the container the salt comes out of it’ and just stood there looking at me like he was expecting me to take it back and eat it. Still no apology or offer of a replacement to be made and when I told him I won’t be paying for it he walked off shaking his head. That was the end of me giving this cafe anymore chances with their service as now their food has gone downhill as well. Will not be going back. Luckily Croydon has several wonderful cafes to...
