A few nights ago we had dinner at Pompette in Portsea. Our first impression of the place was great, charming and inviting, a great name for a bistro (Tipsy) and a small menu full of good things and choice for everyone. We were pleased to see a nice selection of French wine as we started our night with the Côte du Rhône. We ordered our first dish, we were going to get the main and then dessert. I had the boeuf bourguignon and my partner had the confit duck. We could tell that the kitchen was efficient as we did not have to wait long to receive our meals. It was well presented and the portions were generous. I would say it was almost perfect.. We tried the mash and found it a little bit too salty, and I do love my food salty but this time I thought that it was a shame as it was not complementing the taste of the beef bourguignon. I still enjoyed my meal as nothing bits a buttery mash potatoes! The beef bourguignon was very nice, could have been a bit stronger in taste to match the saltiness of the mash but really, I am being a bit picky there. My partner ordered the confit duck and his mash was also a little bit too salty but otherwise it was absolutely delicious, the figs and the red cabbage went really well with the duck and nothing was left on the plate but the bones. We also ordered the salad which we found a bit disappointing. The dressing was lacking some zing and the roquette was not really peppery. The staff working that night was very friendly, professional but still happy to smile at our silly jokes and make you feel very welcomed. We finished our evening with the desserts. They were really yummy, the crème brûlée and the tarte tatin were equally appreciated. Overall we had a great night. The staff was really good, the food prompt to arrive, well presented and with a generous portion. The ambiance was charming with dimmed lights for a cozy feel. We will be looking forward to coming back!!

Seriously good. This fabulous wine bar/ bistro has a superbly small menu, excellent service and a wonderful atmosphere for couples and small groups. I love the atmosphere with an amazing collection of corkscrews, lovely dark green walls and a delightful open fire in winter. The wine ist is good but the cocktails are superb collaborations between kitchen and bar staff. It is really good value and solidly good food. Do try the escargot and or the pate en croute. The steaks are the best I have had in the peninsula and the crème brûlée is as close to perfection as you can get, especially firebranded by chef Nancy. Staff are friendly and attentive but unobtrusive, and I appreciate the spacing between tables and the intimate size of the venue with good lighting and music levels. While many venues on this end of the peninsula rely on tourist revenue and are generally not great for locals, Pompette is a breath of fresh air with solid French classics as relaxed style .

Nice venue and great service from FOH team. Also, a great selection of wine. We shared a nice bottle of red. The food was a bit of a miss unfortunately. Not too sure if they are french or a French Asian fusion restaurant? This was the first time we've had escargots served without shells. Scallops were overcooked and rubbery. The flank steak and fish was okay. I suppose this is the best "french" food you could get in Portsea.

A fantastic little hidden gem tucked away in Portsea. How lucky are we to finally have a really good local wine bar/ restaurant on our own doorstep.

An open fire, delicious food, a great range of drinks including Pommery buy the glass, what more can a girl ask for!

Although the menu is small it’s more than adequate with beautifully presented tasty dishes and a really good variety of food

Congratulations to Luik and Kirsty for this amazing addition to our weekend dining experience and for giving us something special to look forward to. We will...
