Headed back to have lunch at Steel's Gate on Sunday 5/5/2024 with my better half and, as we have come to expect, we were not disappointed. Another delightful meal enjoyed by both of us along with a glass of wine each. The focaccia was done differently to the way it would usually be done and it was nothing short of sensational. Each course was well presented and the flavours were perfect. Top marks to the kitchen staff and a big thank you to Laura who organised for us to collect a box of wine that we had ordered previously. Thank you once again to the entire team at Steels Gate for yet another great experience. We will be back in a few months to once again enjoy your hospitality, culinary delights and great wine. Cheers Perry and Chantel.

Had an amazing time today at Steels Gate Winery. We had lunch with a couple of friends and we were all extremely impressed by the quality of the food, wine and service. Very friendly and attentive service in a very relaxed and welcoming atmosphere. Please keep the duck salad on the menu. Looking forward to getting back there in the near future. Thanks to Brad, Matt and the team at Steels Gate Wines.

Finally managed to get back to Steel's Gate with another couple of friends on Saturday for lunch. Needless to say, everything was once again superb. Friendly, knowledgable staff were only too happy to provide recommendations for food and wine. New Chef Stacey served up a very tasty lunch and then dropped by our table to say hi.The location is perfect, in a nice quiet part of the Yarra Valley, possibly overlooked by larger groups (not unhappy about that.) The meal was unrushed and although we had planned to visit another winery in the afternoon, we just found Steel's Gate hard to leave......so we didn't. Thanks you once again to the entire team at Steel's Gate for yet another memorable experience....great food, great wine, great...

Came to Shantell Vineyard with a group of 4 couples last minute on a Sunday afternoon. We made our way down to the Yarra Valley from Melbourne mid afternoon and made a lunch reservation on our way! With only 2 hours notice so we were so pleased that the restaurant were able so accommodate such a large booking with such short notice. Upon arriving the restaurant had beautiful natural lighting, gorgeous open plan dining area overlooking the vineyard. Upon being seated we were welcomed by Shan the Winemaker. The menu has a small selection of dishes. Great variety of choices and complimentary wines. Upon ordering we collectively felt uncomfortable with our waiter, she was a very elderly lady. She was so softly spoken that we were barely able to hear a word she was saying. Upon receiving our mains one of our diners tried to clarify if her ocean trout was well done as she had ordered. The softly spoken lady rudely replied with an unknowing "I hope so" and continued to serve the dish. Now we hoped so too as she is pregnant and cannot eat undercooked trout. After having to explain why she has had to request her dish well done the woman took the dish back to be redone. As grateful as we were for the dish to be redone, unfortunately the dish did not come back out until all 7 other dishes were finished. Would definitely return to Shantell winery for the food but the Service definitely let the...

Our visit to the winery on December 29th 2024 presented a mixed experience. On the positive side, the location, design, exceptional live performances, and, of course, the quality of the wine were remarkable. The restaurant and tasting area are situated at an optimal elevation within the winery, which, when combined with the live performances, creates a magical and relaxing atmosphere during the warm summer days in the Yarra Valley. However, a significant drawback was the service. The winery has a peculiar policy whereby patrons are required to retrieve their own glasses of wine from the front counter, rather than being served at their table. This necessitates a considerable walk from the entrance to the outdoor seating area. Additionally, the entrance doors are not equipped with automatic opening mechanisms, which complicates the process of navigating through them while attempting to carry two glasses of wine. This experience of self-service seems to be uniquely applied to the purchase of individual glasses of wine, as patrons ordering a bottle or participating in a wine tasting are attended to directly by staff. I find it perplexing that such a discrepancy in service standards exists for different types...

You won’t find this winery on any of the tourist maps, which is actually kind of perfect, and yet very popular. We only found it on recommendation from a local at another winery, and my my were we glad we did. Brad was wonderful, and you can see his passion for his wines written on his face. We loved that the selection of wines is about 10-12 options and for the tasting you can pick 5, so my husband and I were able to pick along our personal preferences. Personally the Chardonnay, Coldstone, and Sparkling wine (in that order) were my favorites, but I like a lighter more summery cheese pairing wine. My husband really enjoyed the bolder wines. Point being there’s a variety to satisfy any palate. Food wise, great options. We had the cheese plate with pickled veggies, the Brie was something special. The grapes are growing steps away from the tasting area, which lends to an incredible view from the property. Overall we very very much enjoyed our time here and would highly recommend a visit!

We celebrated our 32nd wedding anniversary at this beautiful spot in the Yarra Valley Steels Gate and it couldn’t have been more perfect. We started with the mussels and the burrata with cherry tomatoes both absolutely delicious, with a perfect balance of marinated flavours and subtle spices. For mains, the porterhouse with roasted marrow bone was rich and deeply satisfying, while the fish plate with barley was light, fragrant, and beautifully cooked. Every dish was thoughtfully prepared and full of character. The wine pairing elevated the whole experience we chose a Pinot Noir (the barrel-aged 2018, if memory serves us right) and it was simply superb, complementing the food wonderfully. The team here has truly created something memorable. Highly recommend this experience to anyone visiting the region. We’ll definitely be back! The location and the view from the restaurant inside the wine yard is pretty.
