What a lovely looking Chinese Restaurant. I thought we were in for a treat but we were very disappointed. The Peking Duck pancakes were miserable and small, had bone and sinew, they were served with the sauce on the side but no utensils to use it. The short soup was just luke warm and the broth lacked flavour. The Kung Pao chicken had a sweet sauce and no chillies or Sichuan pepper and the chicken was tough. The Chinese broccoli dish was tough instead of tender and crisp. After we had finished or should I say not finished our lunch, a large woman appeared behind the counter who I can only presume was the owner. She was wearing her mask below her nose and was continually blowing her nose and not washing her hands but still handling the food. To top everything off, the bathroom had a sign beside the toilet asking to please not flush your toilet paper but to place it in the bin beside the toilet. What a shame, needless to say we won't be back.

We had dinner in a cafe with the whole family. The duck in the photo does not correspond to reality, in the menu the photo of the dish is completely different. Dumplings with prawns are dried, the batter is not tasty, it was impossible to eat. The most delicious is fried prawns, but unfortunately it is impossible to spoil them. We were with the child and asked him to bring a cucumber sliced, since the child does not eat either fish or meat. The waiter asked twice if it was true that our child likes cucumbers and replied that the kitchen was already washed and they would not be able to cut the cucumber. Terrible attitude towards visitors and disrespect for children who come to eat with their parents. I don’t advise anyone. Thank you for the delicious water in the bottle, which is served as a compliment.

TAO Dumplings and Asian cuisine freshly made food is authentic prepared on order. The food is freshly made on premises with on kitchen. The Staff are lovely very attentive to please customers in making a l great experience. Highlight is the freshness of made to order. Great selection of food choices menu is adapted to dietary requirements . Alcohol and non-alcohol drinks. We've been back a few time and certainly will put this restaurant on favourites. Great value. This is a hidden treasure restaurant is a hidden treasure in Mentone. High recommend.

I so much wanted to write a positive review… BUT… We have been eyeing this place out for some time, however, never went because it is somewhat hidden, and we keep forgetting it’s there. Tonight we remembered and finally decided to order some take away. We looked at the online reviews, it scored a 3.7 (not a great sign) but ignored it because people can be fussy eaters. We ordered and were told the wait time would be 20-25mins, no worries at all. I drove down within 15 minutes and entered. The counter staff saw me and ignored me, one went to stack some glasses, the other decided to put some money into the cash register. I noticed a bag on the counter with an order docket, again they looked at me, they decided to talk to each other. Waiting 5 minutes I decided it’s now been 20 minutes, so I’ll interrupt… “excuse me please, is that my order?” … “NO” one of them exclaimed… “are you sure?” I asked. Turns out it was my order after all. No smile, no eye contact, no apology nothing. Just presented me with the Eftpos machine and mumbled that it would incur a surcharge… No problem I just paid and left. What about the food? Seriously, do not waste your money on this food. Fried rice was tasteless, san choy bow, 2 lettuce leaves and filling to barely fill 1… spring rolls? Anyway… suffice to say, don’t waste your money here. If your food is inferior, please try and compensate with something you can control, like your customer service. You had a great chance to capture a new client and unfortunately, you failed on both counts, so will be not be returning, there are better options in the...

I am a business owner and leaving a bad review is generally really the last thing I would do, always considering that you can be unlucky once… well I tested it twice and should have not given them a 2nd opportunity… if you are looking for a place where you are not welcomed properly, where the staff struggles to understand what you say, where the person behind the bar is as smily as a prison door, no hello, no welcome, where the same person who is supposed to be in charge barks a couple of orders in Chinese in front of you (I still have the feeling that what was said was not particularly nice) then this is the right place to spend your money. Food is more than average. Deco is bad. In the back you eat next to a pile of old chairs and some stock of cans. I think the chairs are 30years old, they look dirty. They were ugly 30 years ago they still are. It is beyond me why people who own a business in a prime location do not have a bit more pride to make sure their business looks clean and decorated. Many places make an effort to paint and clean their walls, put some fresh flowers and so on. Not this one, how you feel about your experience there is clearly the last of their concern. A real pity I love Chinese food and dumplings but there are other options. Let’s support businesses who deserve it. I took the time to write this review so you can support other...

Came here today with family. Seated quickly, food was great. Ordered an orange juice, which came out of a big bottle like you get from the supermarket. Changed that and got a soft drink.

Had to ask for cutlery, not given when food came out.🍴🍽🔪🥄

Went to pay, and was told we couldn't pay separately. One person ordered alot of dishes, and one person just ordered one dish. Was told we could HALVE the bill in 2 - exactly. 🤔🤔🤔

So $22 vs $60. Why should one person pay exactly $41, if they didnt eat $41 worth of food & drink.❓️❓️

We have come here before (few months ago), and paid separately. Now only a few months later we can't.

I understand if it was a big party of people, and alot of different amounts, but it was just 2 people today.

Today one person paid it ALL by her CARD, and was charged $4.00 surcharge for this😱😡 It is a Saturday not a public holiday. Why $4 surcharge? Are businesses allowed to do this?

We will not come back here again, regardless of the lovely food.

Staff attitude and 'policies' they tell customers, need to be more transparent. Restaurants/Cafes are charging whatever they want including inflated surcharges.

Also, was charged $2 for plastic take away container. This was NOT explained was an additional cost when asked for the container.

Will NOT be returning.

If you are thinking of going here, please read...
