We were dying for a French lunch and we were meaning to check out this venue for quite some time. The weather had to be perfect as seating is mainly outside. So last week on Thursday the sun was out on a cold Melbourne autumn day so we popped in for a lunch fix.
We’re no strangers to French cuisine, and know what to expect from a good galette and croque madame. But let’s first start with coffee, if the coffee isn’t good then we have low hopes, but the coffee was tremendous, flavourful, great mouth feel, and milk microfoamed to perfection in our piccolo lattes. Tick!
For lunch, a croquet madame, and a hefty galette with all the trimmings, ham, two eggs, sautéed mushrooms, roasted potatoes, cherry tomatoes, and so on. Both were beautiful and tasty, Charlene enjoyed the sandwich tremendously, and had the perfect balance of fillings and topped with a good amount of mornay and an egg done right. The galette was for me (Ronny) the perfect lunch. Filling, tasty, balanced flavours and full of texture. Thoroughly enjoyed it and didn’t want it to end. The buckwheat crepe was thin and crispy, and held up well with the toppings. So damn good! If I had to compare it to some of the best I’ve had in Melbourne I wouldn’t say it ranks with the best, and I would say ranks above Roule Galette in the city. There was something about the crepe that just stood out and did it for me. If the crepe wasn’t right then no toppings can save it. Well done!
Overall service was quick, you order inside, pay up and they bring it outside to you. As I said, weather permitting it’s an amazing place for lunch and the ratings of this place correlate to our experience here.
Highly recommend, and next time we will leave room for...
Read moreI discovered this gem by chance, and have been here a few times since.
The customer service here is ahhhmazing - every single time, I'm greeted with the warmest greetings and smiles! The crepes are fresh and delicious; lemon curd and blueberries crepe were so so good!
Update:
Came here again this morning - as usual, greeted with nothing but warmth from this team.
I ordered blue cheese crepes - but unfortunately, I overestimated my palette for blue cheese. The guy at the counter asked for my feedback - I told him honestly I couldn't finish and ordered another of my favourite nutella crepe. He then came out, and told me he had refunded me for the bue cheese crepe as he was apologetic it didn't meet my expectations.
I'm sorry guys - it honestly wasn't you - just me and my unrefined palette. But still, thank you! For that sincerity and genuine service - i am so touched.
I'll def spread the word and keep coming back....
Read moreWe decided on the ham and cheese crepe plus the goatee crepe and two long blacks. Very disappointed with it ALL!!!!!! The buckwheat was dry almost to the point of being burnt and the taste totally BLAND and tasteless both of them. Having just returned from France the whole experience was very underwhelming as was the terrible coffee that appeared like sludge with a burnt taste which is never good and very little crema which is always the sign of a poor coffee which so.many coffee shops around Melbourne produce now. Perhaps some decent Barista training would be good as would a lesson in making a GOOD CREPE We can accept that prices have gone up but to produce such poor coffees and food it is no wonder so many coffee shops are failing around Melbourne. The only person that would enjoy this would be someone who has never...
