Shocking Service. While running some errands, I dropped into the Sober Mule Cafe to get a quick Avocado Smash, which was $20 (overpriced), and I had asked for a small cup of boiling water to top up my keep cup I had brought in. One of the staff eventually brought the hot water out, but before she would hand it to me, she demanded $1 for the water. I asked if she was serious, as I'd just bought a meal, and she said yes. I told her to take it back as that was surely a joke. My food came out after a delay, and I asked if I could have some cutlery, the female staff told me to get it myself, which I replied that there was no cutlery in the designated area. She came out shortly after, with cutlery to restock, I asked if she could pass me some, and she said, "No, you can get it yourself." Honestly, I get that most of them are high school dropouts, but still, where is the service? This generation of rude, entitled girls is overwhelming.

It’s a bare pass for me, real score 2.8 out of 5. I had the avo smash with an extra egg and added bacon. Bizarrely, it was still a small dish for the price even with two extras. You get one slice of lightly toasted bread only, with the two eggs (one standard, one extra) crowded on top. Not only that, the yolks were unforgivably hard not runny. To make matters worse, the dish was cool when it arrived. Not much warmth to be seen. It was a shame because the flavours in the dish were actually quite good. My coffee to finish was ok if a little on the weak side. Service throughout was just OK. Transactional I’d call it with minimal warmth. This was a fairly ordinary experience. There were too many errors here today for me to consider returning.

A great place for coffee, breakfast or lunch. This place have a nice feeling the moment I walked in. A simple decoration and yet very comfortable environment. They have good coffee but I won’t be returning for food as the menu is quite pricey for what you get. Been here twice. First visit, we were greeted by a lady with a warm smile and we were seated immediately. Second visit, wasn’t that pleasant. 2 staff saw us walked in but we were left there standing and waiting to be seated. One went off to clean an empty table and the other just ignore us completely. This place also have a big outdoor playground and a section of bike parking rack that comes with bike pump for bikers.

After coming here for almost 2 years consistently and a clear change of owners the quality of this cafe has some how gone downhill, with prime real estate and location you'd think we would see some strive for excellence but alas No.

The coffee is more inconsistent than a maccas order You'll either have the most scolding hot burnt milk piece of coffee trash or something made by someone who knows what they're doing which usually means it is nothing better than ok The food is about as good certain items can get. the cabinet sandwiches, sausage roll and quiches are quality food that are worth the price and i wouid recommended for a bite to eat however menu food is very hit or miss, for 18 dollars the cheeseburgers is a very well priced but unearthly greasy and oily and sometimes missing pickles sauce or other items. DO NOT BUY THE FOCCACIAS for 12$ i got a sad excuse for warm bread with a rasher of bacon and 2 overcooked eggs

The friendly staff keep the place afloat but with the communication issues some of them have its hard to appreciate due to frustration. The wait on coffee feels inconsistent with the amount of people sometimes and that's not the biggest issue but could be worked on, ive seen staff disputes occur and although they're bound to happen it would be nice not to see staff members directly spoken to in such a poor manner especially in front of customers In one instance my mum and i where dining in and found ourseleves being ignored when we had indicated we wanted to order not even I'll be 1 second just flat out ignored which left a poor taste in my mouth considering my mum runs a very successful restaurant

All in all this place used to be a good spot to get some great coffee and a Bite to ear but now feels like a husk of...

I never write reviews but just had to this time after the most infuriating experience. We just went to the Sober Mule for lunch. My grandma ordered the fish and chips and when they came out I commented that the fish had a strong smell. My grandmother ate half of the 3 pieces and left the rest because it didn't taste right to her. She's not one to complain so we just paid and left. One hour later she had an upset tummy and was vomiting. I made a courtesy call to the cafe and was put through to the manager Lyn who was defended from the very beginning. I simple wanted to give some feedback and heads up that there may have been something wrong with the fish they were serving. Well I ended up getting all the excuses under the sun. I was told that it can't have been the food because she tasted it when we left (what?!) because she had noted that most was left uneaten and wanted to check that it wasn't off. She proceeded to suggest that perhaps it was because she was elderly or perhaps she had been around children with gastro. She then told me she was a food scientist and took these matter seriously and that one cannot get food poisoning from frozen food (say what?!) and that food poisoning from fish takes 6 hours to manifest - some unusual (and very inaccurate) comments coming from a "food scientist". I was adamant that it was the food and no I didn't not want a refund just a customer giving feedback so no one else gets sick - her response was for my grandmother to provide a stool sample if we wanted them to test it!! Ummm no thanks! Terrible, terrible customer service. The coffee is also nothing to write home...

I cannot rate the (lunch menu) food, as there was not any. We arrived at about 1.45, hoping for lunch, but were told that the kitchen was closed. I would have gone elsewhere, but I had brought my elderly parents and my father, who is quite frail, was not well enough to go looking for other options. We ended up ordering coffees, vanilla slice and a yo-yo. Despite being seated in the pleasant outdoor area, our coffees were delivered in paper takeaway cups. The waitress made no comment when questioned about this. My parents said that the vanilla slice was good, but I was sadly disappointed with the yo-yo. It came on a plate still in its (clearly commercially produced) plastic wrapper. The biscuit itself lacked the buttery melt-in-the-mouth texture that you expect of a yo-yo/melting moment, instead being a rather boring crumbly vanilla biscuit filled with forgettable vanilla creme. I have visited this cafe on previous occasions and have had a far better experience. Unfortunately, today's service lacked any semblance of care for the customer, and we will not return. There are plenty of other Mornington cafes where the food, service and overall experience are far superior. A very...
