Through Road Pantry — Restaurant in Melbourne

Chanced upon this homely little bakery after finishing a hearty brunch across the road. The cakes and pastries caught my eye, so I decided to grab a jam doughnut and a beef burgundy pie to go.

The jam doughnut, save for the lacklustre serving of jam, was a beautiful treat indeed. Light and soft, with a slightly crisped exterior.

The beef burgundy pie was brimming with fillings, and very flavourful, with a rich and robust sauce. Flaky buttery pastry rounded up this yummy pie.

Lovely and friendly service from the lady behind the counter, and with such a delectable selection of pastries, it just means that I have to return to try them...

I love this bakery and I regularly come to buy their delicious products, but today when I was served by one of the ladies, I was very surprised to watch her handle cash money with a gloved hand and then handle the food. I purchased a few items, all of which were handled by hand, (no tongs) after handling money and someone's credit card. I couldn't face eating 2 of the 3 items, but I did eat one of the cakes that I thought had been less handled, but it tasted of onion! 5 star for the spinach quiche today. The spinach was real, not the frozen pulverised sort and it had a few nice pieces of real feta in it. The pastry case was fluffy as usual. Compliments to the baker!! Please keep doing it this way!!

This place is very clean. The service is ok but could improve with a warm greeting upon entering and being served.

The food quality is good but pricey. I would recommend for an occasional treat. It would also be helpful if items were priced in the display cabinet so there’s no surprise at the...
