Trofeo Estate, a place I once held in high regard due to previous enjoyable visits, turned out to be an absolute letdown during my recent birthday celebration. Notably missing was any acknowledgment of my birthday which was noted in the booking, a small gesture that would have significantly enhanced the personal feel of the occasion.
The initial seating arrangement added to the disappointment, as we were placed directly under the intense heat of the sun on a blistering 37-degree day. It was only after we voiced our discomfort that they agreed to move our table, a reaction that, while ultimately accommodating, should not have required prompting given the obvious discomfort AND the abundance of free tables.
The experience was further marred by the cheese platter, which, at $39, was both underwhelming and lackluster and the venue should be ashamed for serving this in our day & age (refer to photos)
Although the wines at Trofeo Winery retain their appeal, this visit highlighted that exceptional wine alone cannot compensate for shortcomings in hospitality and service. The overall experience was dampened by the lack of attention to detail, the necessity to request basic comfort considerations, and the disappointing food offering. Consequently, I am compelled to reconsider returning, driven by the realisation that the essence of a memorable winery visit encompasses far more than just the quality of the wine. I regret coming here - please learn from my mistake and don’t...
Read moreThe Mornington Peninsula is blessed with many good wineries, and several of which boast excellent restaurants. These vary from casual eateries to fine dining hatted establishments. Most serve what you might call "modern Australian"; there are some variations on this, but that's the norm. Of course, a highlight is to be able to enjoy the in-house wines, which are uniformally excellent in this area. Trofero is easy to recommend as one of the better places to eat on the Peninsula. It's a lunch-only place with a set menu (although they are happy to accommodate dietary preferences) designed by an accomplished executive chef with a hatted pedigree. The set menu price is about $80, which we thought was excellent value for the quality of food we enjoyed. You dine in a spacious, comfortable, well-lit room,, and you are looked after by enthusiastic, helpful, efficient, and knowledgable staff. The food is sensational. Every dish highlights refined treatment of top quality produce. The flavours are beautifully balanced and the serving sizes are perfect. The excellent terracotta aged wines complement the food to perfection. For about $100 a head you can enjoy one of the best lunches on the Mornington Peninsula. We will definitely be...
Read moreThe staff were really nice and helpful. The noise level was just bearable but it wasn’t full! The servings are minute with two halves of a Moreton bay bug for entree being two tiny pieces of bug meat. The thin miniature piece of rib eye was thin enough to have been cut with a laser and came with.baby leek which was not soft! We got a bowl of them chips between four. The lamb cutlets were also tiny and there were only two and they came with a small eggplant moussaka. The meals were not substantial enough for anyone who goes with an appetite like we did. We skipped breakfast but we shouldn’t have!
I will add further I. Response to simply having the three course meal. I don’t eat desserts anywhere I went to lunch and just because it was $67.00 for two courses this should not translate into less food! I would rather pay more and get enough so that each person in our party was fed and full not that we all left looking for a steak sandwich or cheese omelet or salad roll or something more. If you are serving snack sizes the menu should make that clear as in my view that is what our two courses were
Yes the staff were fantastic and...
