When I heard a new cafĂ© called âTwice Shyâ had opened this week in Fitzroy, my brain automatically pinged and the sounds of George Michaelâs âLast Christmasâ flooded my mind. Itâs good timing considering Christmas is beckoning, and we have all been keeping our distance during lockdown.
âTwice Shyâ definitely did catch my eye, and while my mask made it difficult for staff to recognise me, I was thoroughly impressed with this corner spot on Miller Street.
Its the sister cafĂ© to Mother Melbourne, and it shares the same community values, with a strong social conscious. Unlike Motherâs hipster vibe with exposed brick canvas, âTwice Shyâ has gentle pink hues, and a warm vibe reflecting the attitude of the staff. I was delighted to meet cafĂ© manager Nat, who told me how they plan to open a bar out bar called âOnce Bittenâ, which will also serve as an events venue in the evening. Much like Mother Melbourne, âTwice Shyâ aims to promote a sense of belonging for all, with a commitment to inclusivity and celebration of diversity. Having worked in the Disability sector for almost two years now, I really appreciate a cafĂ© with disability access. Nat also highlighted her love for Califia Farm Oat Barista Blend due to its creamy texture and easy to steam properties, as well as the most important factor- flavour! Many locals are health conscious, and becoming more and more aware of what they are consuming, how it impacts the earth as well as their own wellbeing.
âTwice Shyâ embraces all- from the local mum needing a caffeine hit after school drop-off, or the avid foodies looking for their next weekend jaunt.
The full dine-in menu will be available from December 11, and Iâm told to expect some colourful dishes that echo the vibe at this emerging...
Read moreI cannot rate the cafe and staff more highly! My husband and I had visited once before and found the food and service to be excellent. The staff are knowledgeable, friendly, and attentive, making you feel as if youâre getting a fine dining experience at the same time as chatting with friendly locals. We got in touch with them for a last minute Motherâs Day booking for my first Motherâs Day and the owner Dom and his wife went out of their way on a Friday evening to shuffle a couple of things around to squeeze us in even though they were booked out. On the day, Dom greeted us personally with two roses and a complimentary beverage to make my meal even more special. The food and service was, as before, top notch. Dom saw my baby enjoying a bit of avocado from my plate and went and got him a little tub of it to takeaway and enjoy at home. The owners and staff made my first Motherâs Day so memorable. I would recommend Twice Shy to everyone and weâll definitely be back! Thanks...
Read moreThis is a very cute place on miller street, the staff was very friendly and the coffee nice. Food menu looks all very yummy and I tried the granola and chia bowl. It was very well presented and tested really good especially with all the fresh fruit although I was hoping to have another couple of spoons. I donât know if it was because it was so good or if because the bowl was big but the serve felt a little bit short. My partner had the passion fruit bowl and on the opposite side it felt like a really large portion. My partner enjoyed the bowl except the passion fruit was surprisingly cold. Overall I give 5 stars because we both enjoyed it and I would probably go back to try some more of their menu. As we left around 930 am it was getting busier, they have a large number of tables so I think youâll be fine by just...
