The Little Bookroom — Local services in Melbourne

A super cool book store, I saw and bought Eragon here, which I then went back and bought the rest. I would love to give 5 stars, but sadly I had a bad interaction with one of the workers.

After entering the store as I always do, I went to the desk and asked them to order a book for me. To which the reply was “I don’t know how to do that, someone will be back in the afternoon. However, you do know this is a kids bookstore? We sell kids books?” Maybe I misread the situation, but the tone they took was pretty insulting, as if to say i can’t order here, it was a little embarrassing. So then I just said “alright thanks” and left. Since, I haven’t come back.

Its a real shame, because I refused to order any books online when I was buying books here, to try and support them anyway I could.

Sales 101, don’t alienate the customers coming...

Customer service. Was very disappointed to find their physical store in North Fitzroy not open at 11am as specified by signage on their door. Waited for 20 minutes and still no show. Especially frustrating as I had spoken with them a few days before and it had been arranged that I would view the book put aside for me at 11am on Monday. I am not a local and cannot return to view the book. I try very hard to support local business but guess I will have to resort to buying from elsewhere. They may wish to update their phone recording to reflect their current opening times over the Xmas, New Year and school holiday period so as not to further disappoint customers. My daughter has the yearly subscription, this is the second year now. Unfortunately twice in this time we have been sent the same book twice. I contacted The Little Bookroom the first time and their solution was for me to pay to return the double up and they would replace it. We didn’t bother and gave the second book away. It has now happened again. This is their mistake and postage has already been paid. We won’t be continuing the subscription next year.

Edit to add: Just received the second package for this year with another duplicate book. So far for 2023 and 2024 we have been sent three...
