Winter Malvern — Restaurant in Melbourne

Just off Glenferrie Road is Malvern’s newest cafe offering with a cool, minimalist interior, all white walls and furniture with concrete floors and large windows flooding the space with natural light. We’re greeted by the delicious smell of coffee brewing right by the front door next to a cabinet full of yummy looking-made treats.

There’s lots of space inside with tables and booths of various sizes and they can make space if you’re bringing a pram. There’s also some seating out the front if you’re accompanied by your furbaby.

Winter is the newest baby for the group that brings you MOB, Stanley, Bentwood and Clubhouse Malvern – so we’re already expecting great things from the menu. They’re serving up the Inglewood brew and the coffee here is on point.

what we had… Smashed Kabocha Pumpkin 19.5 – feta, pomegranates, krispy kale on multigrain with dukkah, poached egg and beetroot hummus (gluten free option) - smooth creamy pumpkin piled up on crispy sourdough. We loved the texture that the kale and the pomegranate added and the pop of colour from the hummus. Smashed pumpkin is one of my fave dishes, especially in the cooler months, and this one didn’t disappoint.

Beef Short Rib Benny 19.5 – braised bbq beef short riv, two poachies, spiced fried parmesan poleta, chipotle hollandaise & watercress Hearty beef, deliciously melt in the mouth. The polenta was just gently spiced with a crunchy texture on the outside. The yolk and the hollandaise gave this dish plenty of moisture.

Nutella Crumpets 18 –This dish was incredible but don’t get it if you don’t love NUTELLA! The chocolate crumpets were thick but fluffy and the whipped blackberry concoction gave each mouthful a little bit of sharpness to offset the sugary taste of the dish. There was SO MUCH Nutella – like a whole jar of it! Nutella underneath the crumpets, Nutella between the crumpets and more Nutella generously smothered all over the top. Topped off with crunchy honeycomb and fresh strawberries, imo this is quite possibly the best Nutella dish in Melbourne!

Final thoughts… Considering it’s pedigree we had understandably high expectations for our experience at Winter – and we weren’t left disappointed. The coffee was great, the service friendly, and the on point menu offering great quality dishes. I’m looking forward to...

I have been coming to Winter regularly because I love how they serve the chai latte and their coffees are good. I recently invited my family to visit. I always have the chai served in a clear glass with honey and the chai latte to pour myself from a jug. When we came over, my family ordered 2x chai latte. When we sat down, I had to wipe down and clean the table myself because all other tables were also dirty (which I take notice everytime I visit after 3pm) its not great but I can tolerate. However, when the chai latte arrived, they were served in a takeaway cups😭😭😭 The lady behind the counter who took the order could have told us when we order if we can’t have them in a proper glass/cups?? Oh the embarrasement, after I told my family all the good things about the chai latte & recommended the place. I was so dissapointed.

What a cute little cafe!

When I walked in, I was instantly in love with the decor! White and bright with touches of pink and bonus points for the retro prints of Bubble-O-Bill and Sunny Boys on the walls!

The gentleman that served me was super friendly, was super knowledgeable about the menu, gave me a great recommendation for the chia pudding and made it such a lovely experience!

The vibe is cosy and chill and it was really nice in there at mid-morning with people grabbing takeaway coffees and a few fellow brunchers in there.

The coffee was sooooo good and the chia pudding was insane! Whatever they do to make that granola, they need to sell it in bulk — it was delicious! Perfect sized meal and all the flavours were so complimentary, it was no joke one of the best sweet breakfast items I’ve had in Melbourne. So yum!
