Meningie Hotel — Restaurant in Meningie

Stopped in here for dinner on the way home after a weekend away. The dining room was very quiet, but the kitchen was flat out serving up meals to the locals who packed the front bar. How do we know they were locals? As every order went out, the staff confirmed who it was for. Not a single meal order went to the front bar without a local's name attached. To me, this shows that the food and service is great, even before we ordered. It's where the locals go, and keep on going back. But, to my own experience... we ordered our meals and settled in for the short wait until they were ready. Drinks were delivered to our table, along with a bottle of water. When our meals arrived they looked and tasted great. The steak was fantastic, cooked just right, and so tender. Staff popped over to make sure everything was ok, but weren't intrusive. This is the most scathing review I have ever given which I’m sure they’ll appreciate as it’s obvious the only welcome mat is for a particular type of local. My GPS wasn’t working - thought - I’ll go the pub, pubs have coffee these days. Walked in - obviously only grog and pokies on offer. Totally ignored by staff. So I eventually approached the barman (who had been happily serving others) and asked him where I could find coffee. Have eaten here before was disappointed with the size of meal seafood trio mostly a plate of chips which were tasty, fish was about the size of a fish finger it had 2 prawns one which was chewy and some strings of squid which were ok. The price per meal size was over priced. Husband had mixed grill not worth the $48 price tag he said was tasty but doesn't compare to any others he has had a million times better!!!
