Chapel Farm Estate — Restaurant in Middle Swan

I booked and pre-ordered dinner for a group of friends for dinner. The process was reasonably easy and I had very high hopes. Some last minute changes due to illness among the guest meant that a few hours before the booking I sought to make some changes to the order thinking that this was sufficient time to prevent preparation of some of the food. On arrival everything was as expected and the staff were very happy and obliging. Ella was particularly wonderful remembering me immediately and assuring me all was in hand.

Shortly after we the first of our food had arrived, realising that the changes I had requested were definitely going to be needed I approached staff to ensure that everything was in hand there also, we did not need some of the food that had been pre-ordered as there were fewer people in attendance. A manager approached me at this point and to say that they proceeded to berate me is an understatement. I accept that clearly a misunderstanding about the changes had been made, rather than holding off on preparing the pizzas they were simply pushed back to a later time. While disappointed that the mixup had occurred I wasn’t prepared to let this ruin my evening and I suggested that perhaps the manager would offer the pizzas to the staff as we simply wouldn’t need them as we had enough food to which she said ‘we can’t do that’.

The most upsetting part of this experience was that my quite mild upset about the mixup was escalated completely by the attitude of the manager. I was willing to accept that a mistake had happened and to simply move on but the way I was spoken to was utterly unacceptable. In the middle of your service area I was told off like a child. This manager completely mis-judged the situation and came at me like a bull in china shop.

What was an otherwise perfectly wonderful evening; I genuinely enjoyed everything else about the night, was ruined and undermined by the attitude of this person. The interaction of this person with me was so bad that 2 seperate staff members approached me to apologise for what they saw and to express their own feelings about this manager and related negative experiences they have had with them in the past. For strangers to approach someone in that context to report what I can only described as bullying is quite shocking.

The wonderful service and great food that was offered by everyone else during our dinner was totally undermined and devalued by this individual’s lack of professionalism. I wont be back despite all the positive things I could say about your business, neither will the 6 others that were in attendance, I imagine some of the other people who were standing within arms reach of me in the bar area might have had something to say about the situation to the guests on their tables when they sat back down too.

I worry about your staff also, the two that approached me seemed to be calling...

Went there for a birthday lunch, the place looked nice enough, however the experience did not match. First off when we arrived we were not greeted and had to look for staff to show us to our seats, then when we got there we found we’d been been put at a high up table with bar stools, even though we had requested a table suited for a high chair (for a toddler) and this table would not be suited as the high chair was sitting below the actual table top. Gladly we got moved without issue (though we were originally inside as it was cold and had to be moved outside).

Then when it came to ordering we ordered some of their kind prawns, fries, fried chicken wings and 3 pizzas (these were both sharing plates and for individual people). When we ordered we were not made aware of any wait and due to the restaurant not being very busy at all we expected food to be received fairly quickly, we also were not asked if we wanted the food separately or together so we expected it all to come together.

We first received the king prawns, however they came out cold, which was not safe to eat as one of the members of our party was pregnant, so we had to take it back to the kitchen for a freshly made dish. Then the fried chicken pieces came out, however they were a dish for only one person, everyone else’s food was not out yet. Then we waited 15 more minutes and then the fries came out with the replacement king prawns. We asked what the wait was for the pizzas and were notified it was 40 minutes from ordering (it had been more than that by then), this was an issue as already some people had received their plates while others were sitting waiting. Then we ended up waiting another 40 minutes to get the 3 pizzas we ordered. If we were made aware of this time wait upon ordering we would of simply gone somewhere else for lunch.

The fact that the food was not brought out altogether so that everyone could eat at the same time just showed us how bad the time management was at this restaurant. I could not imagine how long you would have to wait if it was busy. The lack of a communication and friendliness by staff was appalling as well, when we voiced our concerns about the food being cold and the wait time we were met with silence, to find out the food had been sitting there waiting a while all ready for servers to bring them to us while they were standing around doing...

The whole process was very simple from the start. After we made the appointment to sit down with the wedding coordinator, my partner and I very quickly knew Chapel Farm was our venue of choice. We had a few others on our radar, but Chapel Farm had the unique styling and aesthetic we were looking for. And it conveniently had everything located in the same area so guests didn't have to travel from one venue to another for the reception; or take a hike to get to the toilets or the bar from the reception area.

We got married at The Lake, which at the time had lovely views of the surrounding nature; and wild ducks swimming in the water during our ceremony. We also had visualisation of the resident alpacas and cows - which was something I was really looking forward to as well! The grounds were very well kept and picturesque. We had multiple of our guests commenting on the venue itself; saying it was a perfect choice.

And let's not forget, the food was AMAZING! We went with the buffet style and this was the best choice. I'm not exaggerating when saying all of our guests commented on how awesome the food was; and many went back for seconds and thirds. The only negative thing I will put in this review is that when food was being served, the bridal party was notified and we got our meals first as expected. But there was no real flow to how the guests were being served and no one was calling up table numbers so guests didnt eat for a while after the bridal party got their meals. At one point after we finished our meal, the groom found one of the staff members to ask them when the guests would start being called for their meals; and after that, the guests were called up table by table.

Otherwise, Chapel Farm really went above our expectations in every way. We are so pleased we chose this venue and the staff were all so helpful and welcoming. Everyone made the process so easy and pleasant - from booking the venue, to booking accomodation, to finalising all the little details, and me changing some last minute things. And special shoutout to those who helped the bridal party and I on the day, guiding us and ensuring we had food and drinks during our photo sessions.
