Brown Sugar — Restaurant in Milton

I was looking forward to visiting this cafe and using a discount voucher I had, for 25% off up to $30. I went with 5 friends and asked if I could use the voucher before we ordered. They said yes so we ordered and paid. I asked for a receipt, but once I’d sat down I realised they hadn’t taken the full 25% off, only half that. I mentioned it to the person who served me and he told me it’s only 25% off for 3 meals, so our additional meals and drinks would not be included. First I was annoyed at the lack of transparency- it would have been very easy to tell me that when I ordered. Secondly, I’m sure he was lying: the terms and conditions did not state that and the voucher gave the $30 discount limit (which we were far from reaching). To top off the experience, the staff were quite unfriendly and disinterested, plus the food was very average when it arrived. It was fine, but nothing special and the rocket was old and yellowing. Nice looking and clean venue with a pleasant rear courtyard. Staff were friendly and service and wait time for meals was good.

I had the big breakfast (two eggs, sourdough, mushrooms, tomatoes, sausages, bacon) and opted to swap out sausages and bacon for baby spinach and baked beans. The meal was good but not great. Perhaps I'm being fussy but there was little here to differentiate from something you might make for yourself at home. If I'm eating out I expect a little more in terms of flavours and presentation.

The rear courtyard has a small play area for kids, which is a plus. Overall enjoyable (albeit somewhat forgettable)...

I’ve eaten here before and the foods been quite tasty however my recent experience with my partner and I was not pleasant. We ordered 2 takeaway coffees and food, my partner was drinking her coffee and felt something in her mouth and when she spat it out it was a dead fly! I’m understanding of hot days and flies around but how does 1 get into a takeaway cup, I wonder if it was sat in here for a while… I phoned up to let them know what happened so it does not happen again to anyone else and I was quite shocked that the staff member did not seem to care and just said ‘I would pass it on’ with no apologies.
