(4.5 stars) Continuing an unspoken rule that Southwest Asian restaurants never excel at both hummus and baba ghanoush, Nomah is notable for hummus ($15). Consumed with flatbread, warmed too far making it crisp and brittle, creamy labneh ($16) studded with confit garlic, was also better than the baba ganoush ($16). The baba was flavoured with pomegranate, coriander and Aleppo chilli, but don’t take my word for it, taste test all three in the Nomah Feast ($65/each).
Most tables in this small and simply furnished restaurant opt to eat this way. Small bowls of pickles ($10) fly out of the kitchen, whose profit margins are predicated on accomodating two sittings. Tilba halloumi ($24) is pan-fried in the style of Greek saganaki, then adorned with tea-infused honey and sesame seeds. Felafel ($18/6), dragged through tahini, lemon and olive oil, are crunchy; fattoush ($16) less exciting. Bread isn’t refilled, but each dish—including the standout seven spice lamb rump ($42)—comes adorned with everything you need. In this case it was a bed of labneh, mint, and sumac, with well-handled garlic spuds ($16) on the side.
Ras el hanout chook ($32) with loops of pickled onion, coriander and lemon dressing was eclipsed by the lamb. It probably should have arrived before it. Portions viewed as a whole were generous, so we didn’t eat dessert. We even shared some lamb with a man on the next table, who was dining with a vegan, and had, somewhat regretfully, chosen the chook. The value proposition is further helped by Nomah being entirely BYO ($4/person), so make the first stop of your evening at Small Town...
Read moreWhat a wonderful find - NOMAH - absolutely delicious middle eastern cuisine in our favourite south coast town of Milton. We sat outside which was lovely because it's always quieter outside :) ANNNDDDD BYO - perfect we get to eat delicious food with wine of our choice and preference!!! Service was polite, prompt and friendly - and helpful when we had questions regarding unfamiliar items on the menu.
The food was just scrumptious - the baba ganoush was exceptional - there was definitely something different and delicious about this one but we just couldn't put our finger on what that flavour was - should have asked! Doh!
We had falafel which came on a bed of delicious humus - halloumi saganaki which was very tasty with a crunchy crust of honey we think - yum yum! The lamb dish was amazing - so much flavour --- all together such mouth-watering dishes - we will be back next time we are in Milton for sure :)
My only query is why they don't allow people to book for the time that they want rather then set sittings where everyone arrives at once! It doesn't make sense to me - you can still limit the length of time that people stay - I have no problem with that - but having everyone arrive at the same time...
Read moreNomah is definitely worth trying if you enjoy high quality Middle Eastern food. The emphasis is on quality as this was some of the best Middle Eastern food I have ever had. The service is excellent and dealing with Sky over our booking for 10 people was a pleasure. Sky handled everything so well and really made us feel very welcome. We chose the banquet based on Sky’s recommendation. The banquet gave us an excellent selection of several items on the menu. My personal favourite was the baba ganoush dip which was absolutely delicious. One area of disappointment was the falafel. Clearly the best tasting falafel I’ve had in decades but absolutely disappointing to receive one falafel per person in the banquet. With the Saturday evening surcharge we were paying $71.50 per person and to get only one falafel per person(and they were small falafel) was ridiculous. Also 2 small fatoush salads between the seven people on our table that ordered the banquet was also unsatisfactory. So in summary great food of excellent quality, wonderful service however some portions were absurdly small considering the...
