Earlier today myself and my wife decided to treat our family to some delicious pancakes.
We went to our usual spot, (a much better cafe that, out of politeness i won't mention.) Alas, they were too busy, so we thought why not try this place.
It was a busy day, and after ordering we were informed it would be a 20 minute wait, AFTER paying. Not much we can do about this.
Anywho, after 34 minutes our food arrives, 3 plates of pancakes (Canadian style) with bacon and poached eggs, and I ordered the Philly Cheese Steak.
The poached eggs were clearly cooked in a microwave, the whites were rubbery and stiff, the yolks were not runny. The maple syrup was donated by the Salvation Army apparently, as there was about a shot glass worth per plate. And to top it off, my eldest lads cakes of the pan variety weren't even cooked properly and were still about 60% batter
The Cheese steak came out with cold fries, (that cost extra might I add) on a stale flavourless bun, the menu made promises of roasted peppers on said sammich, but they were also cold, and clearly from a can.
I get that it was busy, but come on now, Sunday morning is prime cafe time, and I guarantee that there would not have been as many people there if a certain other cafe...
Read moreA popular little cafe on a busy little st in Mt Barker, atmosphere seemed nice everyone enjoying coffee and food….. little did I know about the fiery depths of hell I would next encounter…. I’m sure they have a tap for the hot water for my coffee tapped into hell itself because I didn’t even know that you could get water that hot without it turning into steam… as I swigged from my take away coffee cup and had nowhere to spit out the pure lava that was now giving the inside of my mouth 3rd degree burns all I could do was try and swallow this devil water that had invaded my mouth….I don’t even know how I managed as I seemed to lose full control of my mouth at this point. The water was so hot it would take an hour for it to be rendered drinkable without risking further damage to my insides. By the time I could finally drink it the few tastebuds I had left that had not been scolded off couldn’t even taste the coffee as I’m sure it had all been steamed out of existence. The desserts we got looked delicious but alas I could not taste them with limited taste buds and my tongue covered in ulcers from the lava shot I had...
Read moreWe had a meal here this weekend and I must say. One of the best breakfasts in the Adelaide Hills that we have had here. Huge servings and real value for your money. Food was perfectly cooked, bacon was tasty, sausage was sliced and grilled nice and crispy. Eggs a nice and soft yoke and cooked white. Look, the only thing that was not great was that it's very small inside, and the table space was crazy small, but that added to the character.
Staff are friendly and super efficient and helpful. Price was actually a bit higher than some of the others, but because of the quality of the food, it doesn't bug you.
Both me and my wife had the Big Breakfast, and it was $26 each, and a coffee each, that was just over $60. The coffee is great roast with a really soft, creamy taste to it.
Can really highly highly recommend...
