CONFUSING (maybe age or non-local?) DISCRIMINATION - Please consider the below before supporting this business!

I was with 4 people and we all purchased food and drinks (I actually purchased multiple drinks because it was a hot day). The place was basically empty, and we all sat down and started to enjoy our lunch. Then out of no where the older lady who served us came to our table and said we couldn't eat "take away" food at the tables and had to leave. There was no signage telling us this, and we didn't even realize we ordered "take away" food, we had no intention of taking anything away from the beginning and weren't really expecting our food to come in paper bags when we ordered. When I asked if we could then have plates we were told no, take away food "IS AT A DIFFERENT PRICE POINT" (surprising since this food wasn't cheap) so we had to leave. I have never before had an experience where I had to pay extra to sit in an empty outdoor seated area before, which to be clear I would have been more than willing to do if I was told this before I was half way into my first bite of food.

As we were leaving (after being told we had to) there was a table of about 8 (well older) customers all just drinking take away coffee with no food, and the same lady walked straight past them and didn't set the same law down for them.

I have never experienced this in my life & I have been all around Australia multiple times.

Note: All 4 of us were fully vaccinated, had masks and checked-in (and showed proof) so it wasn't a COVID related thing. It was just bizarre, confusing and...

Order a Pie to takeaway and had to wait 20 minutes after paying $20.00, was in happy with the service I received & decided to leave a review which is something I never do but was left with a bitter taste in my mouth feeling like I was made to feel un welcome and un wanted and the response I got from my review meets my understanding's. The reply from Blair is un professional and egotistical and the service is falling short due to these issues. I was made aware that there a was “warm pie option” which I could of chosen when I asked for my pie to be heated I had to wait 20 minutes for fridge cold pie to be warmed up in the microwave. Whilst waiting I attempted to say hello to a few lovely locals, only to get back a blank, arrogant response. Ordered a handmade gourmet pie for $13.50 only for it to be destroyed in the microwave and a nice cold Ginger beer for $4.50 letting them keep $2.00 left over from the $20.00 cash note I gave them, as a good will gesture. Every paying customer should be treated the same and given the same standard of service, being treated differently is a possibility here at “The fat heads”...

Was really looking forward to eating here after reading the great reviews. We were a tad misled.

It wasn't busy but still took over 30mins for our meals to come out. The Wharfie from the all-day breakfast menu is a weird mix of flavours that don't work together at all. The sausages sound good but leave a bit of a bad after taste, and the 'seeded mustard hash' turned out to be just stodgy mashed potatoes with seeded mustard mixed in.

The Thai Chicken Burger didn't match the description either: the chicken was marinated in teriyaki sauce, and while there was aioli the sweet chilli sauce was missing. It was a really weird mix of flavours that didn't work. Great bun tho and the French fries were nice also.

The place looks a tad dated and dingey. On its own The Fat Goose might be able to fob it off with "that's what you get in a small coastal town", but when you have Harry's Bistro next door offering a much better experience in every way, I wonder if it's only first-time visitors who keep this place...

They advertise themselves as cafe, bakery, patisserie. Realistically, The Fat Goose is a confused mix of these and not getting anything correct. We didn't try the coffee. We did try the risotto and the BLT. Perhaps the risotto was the worst risotto I've ever had. The rice was simultaneously gluggy and raw. There was too much cheese. The fennel was uncooked, the mushrooms were visible yet couldn't be tasted. The BLT was boring. There was too much bacon. The mayonnaise was undetectable in amongst the lettuce and tomato. The bread was over cooked and lacked any pliability. Maybe it easy stale? Overall boring and next avoided. The one redeeming quality was the juice. The freshly made juice was delicious. Unfortunately this raised our expectations for the rest of the meal. In the opinion of this reviewer, The Fat Goose is best avoided.

Staff were OK but were not very well trained. Could not answer simple questions about what was good on the menu or what coffee they used. Long black came burnt so partner had to swap for a cold brew. Finally ordered massaman beef pie and the supreme burger. The pie filling was nice but crust was very underwhelming. Chips with the burger also good. However, there was absolutely nothing supreme about the burger. Slathered in mustard likely to cover the taste of the rest of the burger, which might have been pushing the expiry date. Very odd, grey, bland but slightly off tasting meat that left my stomach feeling very uneasy afterwards. Needless to saybI could not finish the burger. Highly recommend you avoid this one, even if you feel you don't have many other options in Killcare.

Great menu choice and the food is excellent, nice outdoor area and dogs welcome, friendly staff and excellent Coffee. *Updated 17.3.24* Appears the new owners have taken this great little Cafe up a level, we hadn't been here for several months and decided to go for breakfast, wow we wasn't disappointed the food was amazing, the big breakfast is huge and so good ! I didn't manage to beat it but it was bloody tasty, the scrambled egg was so good. My wife had the Eggs Benny with Bacon and demolished it, it was good, were going to go back and try the lunch menu next! The food is top notch and so tasty,4 of us went and every dish was excellent, take a drive out to this place you won't be disappointed.
