T-Bones Tex Mex — Restaurant in Newcastle-Maitland

Decided to check out our local Mexican! We didn't expect to find our nearest Mexican is located inside Wests. We are not from NSW, so the concept of restaurants inside 'Clubs' is alien. While it is a 'Club', we still expected authentic Mexican/Texan food. Having lived in Mexico for 4 years, I have expectations. Served pilled high and deep on a massive plate. Wow! What is this? A fajita in Tex-Mex, is grilled meat, served with peppers and onions in a flour or corn tortilla... Not at T-Bones Tex Mex! We were served unidentifiable meat stew in tomato sauce that had clearly been standing on the stove for hours. Why is the topping for Nachos indistinguishable to the topping for Fajitas? We couldn't even rescue it with Tabasco, nor the optional Sriracha! It didn't resemble anything Tex-Mex in my experience! Maybe this recipe comes from some obscure part of Texas / Mexico I have yet to visit. Mr Heinz would be very happy to can...

We had the slow cooked 18 hour rump steaks, that looked liked they had been fried in a pan. They were as tough as cowhide & contained lots of gristle. As we quite hungry, we ate them... & the meat was so hard it tended to stick in my throat. The little waiter asked us if our steaks were OK, & when we told him our opinions, he told us that cooking rump steak was a case of hit & miss & that we were just unfortunate on this occasion. We know that what he said was a load of old bull, because we regard ourselves as experienced foodies, as we have had far better dining experiences at many other restaurants. The customer service was really exceptional. Even though they were run off their feet, they were all lovely and helpful/thoughtful.

The meals were nice, but several people had some feedback to improve the meals. Nachos- would prefer mince instead of brisket. Fajitas- would prefer just seasoned chicken with salsa on the side as its a bit rich flavoured. But the portions were very generous! Rib eye- said it tasted a bit more like a roast? Would prefer a regular type steak (might try Tbone next time).

But overall we were really impressed with our experience at your restaurant.

Your cocktail range is amazing too. I'd love if you had a chocolate baileys one for dessert but your current ones...
