(3.5 stars) With a tin roof and a blue-green mural enveloping the exterior, Moo & Bean Kitchen & Bar is exactly the sort of all-day eatery you hope to discover in a sleepy coastal town like North Haven. On the cottageās front verandah, a row of bar stools look straight out to the waters of Camden Haven and some expectant pelicans waiting for the first fishing boat to come in. The interiors are light and bright, with your eye caught by hot pink neon signage that would no-doubt be even better by night.
At breakfast time locals and blow-ins alike descend for steaming cups of Artisti Coffee Roasters brew, roasted on the mid-north coast in Coffs Harbour. It goes alright in a strong flat white ($5.50) and a cappuccino ($4.50). The works ($25) will take care of all your breakfast needs with well-handled scrambled eggs and a bang-up pork sausage the standouts in the medley of bacon, spinach, slow roasted tomatoes, balsamic mushrooms, hashbrowns and slightly dry brisket on buttered sourdough.
Spying something different on the breakfast menuācaramelised onion eggs ($19)āhad me ordering it immediately, though I wish Iād been warned by staff it was eye-wateringly sweet. Built over sourdough painted with a pale onion jam (it needed more vinegar and darker caramelisation) this vegetarian breakfast included halloumi, roasted capsicum and a pair of poached eggs. Getting some house-made habanero sauce on the side helped but I was still left wishing Iād ordered...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreWent there the other day with a group of people. Service was okay, but very noisy place, suited more for the younger generation, teens to 30ish people or even 40 ish. I had the pork bun it was okay but could have had an Asian salad alongside got the same cost. The fish and chips were not good at all as the fish although frozen was overcooked and so dry, nothing creative or different in the frozen chips. The chicken lollipops were very dry not at all moist and when the person eating them for the bone part one could see it had not been cooked through. Told the waiter and he said that is how you cook chicken!!! The only dish that looked impressive was the seafood linguine and according to the people who had it, it was ātastyā. The pumpkin salad also received a thumbs up from those who had it. The prawn dish looked impressive but only had 3 prawns on the plate! There were a few other diners who appeared to be having food and cocktails , so my only conclusion is that this could be a great place to chill out on a balmy day and watch the pelicans whilst having a cocktail or two. Perhaps breakfast might be a better choice and I might give it another go with this in mind, but...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI recently had the pleasure of dining at Moo and Bean Kitchen & Bar with a group of 10, including 2 young children. From the moment we arrived, we were impressed by the welcoming atmosphere and live acoustic music that added a delightful touch to our experience. The food was simply outstanding. The $1 oyster special on Sundays was a steal, with each oyster offering a unique and delicious combination of flavors. The cocktails were expertly crafted, refreshing, and perfectly balanced. Even the coffee was top-notch. One of the highlights of our visit was the selection of local, craft beers on tap (Moore & Washtub). It was a refreshing change from the typical mass-produced lagers found elsewhere. The service was impeccable. Our server was attentive, friendly, and knowledgeable about the menu. Even with a large group and young children, they made us feel welcome and accommodated our needs. Overall, I highly recommend Moo and Bean Kitchen & Bar. The food, atmosphere, and service were exceptional. It's a must-visit for anyone looking for a memorable dining experience and...
