As a visitor to Orange we had heard about the foody culture and looked forward to experiencing the good food and wine reputed to be on offer. On the Saturday of our stay over Christmas weekend we were shopping for food and noticed the Racine bakery. A coffee and late breakfast snack seemed to be in our future. We walked in and perused the display. All looked great with a selection of sandwiches, baguettes. We were eager to order. One staff was preparing coffee for the only other customer. Another was packing and preparing various baked goods a little behind the scenes. We patiently waited for our turn to order. Another staff entered with his jaunty hat attempting to be hip. As he finished cleansing his hands another customer walked in, Mr Jaunty Hat Hipster immediately served that customer and ignored our existence. We decided that if we are invisible to them then they obviously don’t need our custom. We left. They probably have good food and coffee but we...

Saw the reviews and popped by around lunchtime, what a lovely little Bakery with friendly service.

Most of the pastries were gone by then but we couldn't resist trying the ham and cheese toastie. At $12.50 it's definitely not cheap but wow it was delicious, very filling and well worth it.

Edit: Finally found time to revisit. We had another toastie, a chunky beef pie and chocolate croissant.

All 3 very simple items that can be found in any Bakery or Cafe, but Racine excels at each. Best pie I've ever had, the beef was melting in my mouth, pastry is rich, buttery and golden.

Their toasties are incredible, with a nice coating of butter on the outside which toasts to an irresistible golden crunch.

The chocolate croissant is the best croissant I've ever eaten (and I've had many)!

Seriously, it doesn't matter what you pick here, everything is amazing and made with love and care. Will definitely be back...

Feb-25: location is much better and you can eat in. The almond croissants are still amazing and so was the manchego and chorizo toastie. Coffee was great too

Jun-22: queues are pretty big over the long weekend. We got 4 of the almond croissants as they came out of the oven. It's a little tricky to eat when warm, and tastes very different once cooled. One of our favourite almond croissants in Australia.

Oct-20: Beautiful little bakery. We walked by around 9pm on sunday over the long weekend, and they were already prepping for Monday... Went back the next morning around 8.15am and there were already people ordering and waiting for food. The vegetarian toastie was simply amazing and the Rueben toastie had good pickle flavours and cleans your palate. Nice almond croissant, just about the right level of butter...

Declaring a particular pastry as NSW’s best pie is bound to create division. So I’m just going to say: Racine Bakery’s beef mince pies, and chicken and Chardonnay pies, are top contenders for this toque. During COVID they’ve pivoted to providing clever items you can enjoy at home, like chicken liver pate ($12) that is excellent scraped onto their sourdough. We popped in on the way to Cowra last weekend and enjoyed gluten-free orange cakes (one broke and they gave it to us for free) and an even-better apple and cinnamon sticky bun. Highly recommended if you’re passing through Orange, NSW.

Based on Great Coffee reviews, I came, pushing aside my Book By Its Cover mindset. It matched my Cover-expectations. No. Its a cafe that is supposed to be in a market mall. The beef burgundy pie meat was grizzly and luke warm at best…the gravy had coagulated and it was soft n mushy with very little burgundy flavour at all. In fact, Id say none. At 8.50, i expect authentic gutsy flavour. This was simply a beef pie. The coffee was …. Drinkable but nothing like “great” …
