A Disastrous Dining Experience at the Railway Hotel, Parkes What a shocking disappointment! Having dined at the Railway Hotel in Parkes six months ago and been impressed with the steak quality and value, I was appalled by the drastic decline on my recent visit. The steak, once a highlight of this establishment, was a complete disaster. Overcooked to the point of toughness, the cut of meat was atrocious—gristly, bland, and clearly of poor quality. The accompanying potato was equally unappealing, tasteless and lacking any seasoning or effort. To add insult to injury, it took over an hour for our meal to arrive, and only after chasing it up did we find out they had completely forgotten to start cooking it. When it finally arrived, they’d forgotten the topper we ordered! This is not the same place as last time—clearly, standards have plummeted. For a venue that once delivered great meals, this experience was both disappointing and infuriating. If this is the “new normal” at the Railway Hotel, Parkes, they’ve lost a loyal customer. Save your money and your patience—there are better places to eat in town.

This is an expensive pub restaurant. I ordered the bruschetta for $15, and the photo shows what I got. It tasted quite nice, but I didn't feel like I got value for my money. They could have at least garnished the plate. The second picture is of how I did brushetta for $14. I also ordered the Balinese vegetable curry, which was deliciously full of flavor, but lacked somewhat in that it was mostly sauce, and not many veggies. A biggie that detracted from my dining experience was that 1.5 minutes after I got my brushetta, the buzzer was going off for me to collect my main. Crikey, I hadn't even finished my first slice, and I couldn't ignore the buzzer as it kept on going off. Ok, all in all, the food's quite tasty, but they're charging Sydney prices. Gee, their specials card had no starters under $22.

Very friendly staff. Food is, not bad but pretty plain. Frozen "seasonal" vegetables, chips, and it's not cheap. Have been here a few times now, tried a few things, and as per many leagues or regional pubs— if you're getting a steak and want it medium, you have to go for rare. I've also had the crispy pork belly which...was not very crispy at all. The meat part of the pork belly itself was quite good, moist, juicy, not dry at all. But definitely not the crispy you would expect. Specials are alright but still not cheap, and you can probably get nicer elsewhere...but probably not in Parkes. Beer selection is quite limited Again staff are great. Disregard photo of steak with garlic bread in the back. Wrong restaurant. Review on steak still stands.

This is for the Hart Bar. Well where do I start. Not worth it. Overpriced food. Rude and argumentative staff. Slow service. Poor quality meals. Loud and poor atmosphere. We waited extensive periods to order. The first waitress took one order before leaving never to return. Another waitress came over 15 mins later to take our order again. When we explained that we thought part of our order was already placed, the waitress then blamed the other waitress.for being new and a broken iPad. Orders were placed and 1 hour and 10mins later arrived at the table. Sour dough bread, 2 slices, each about the size of a womans palm with a whipped truffle butter was $12.50. 2 slices of sourdough!. $42 for a 100g piece of fish. Where am I? These are Sydney city prices. All sides had to be ordered separately if you wanted potato, carrots etc. iExtremely small sized plates, food that was over seasoned and too salty. Undercooked pasta. One of our party members was a vegetarian and ordered the pumpkin papardelli and was served lamb. When the server was told that this was the wrong dish she argued that we were in the wrong because we had ordered risotto. There was no main meal risotto on the menu other than a green pea risotto that was a side accompaniment to the lamb. This dish was eventually replaced with the pumpkin papardelli which was undercooked and gummy pasta. The redeeming factor was the pumpkin filling that was quite tasty. The pork was dry and over-priced and very salty. There was no salt or pepper on the table and it wasn't offered by the servers. Overall an extremely disappointing meal and service. When asked how our meal was when we went to pay the bill, we offered the feedback on our meals. We were also charged for the lamb that wasnt eaten. I raised this and was told by the server that they , the restaurant, had to waste the meal because of the order mistake but she would ask the chef if he wanted to charge us for it. On her return she remarked that the chef had said he would remove the cost of the meal as it was bad anyway. We were then queried about what name we had booked the table under and also asked if we were.from there. A very strange question to ask your customers who had just expressed their disappointment at the quality of the meal. The restaurant didnt appear over-booked. My overall impression of the Hart Bar is a greedy attempt to push an overpriced sophisticated menu, poorly delivered, when they should just stick to what they do best, Pub food. Because the schnitzels and steaks served in the pub downstairs are amazing. Anyway sorry for the long review. But overall would...

I was so shocked when our meal came out, we ordered the crumb cutlets, they were tiny and dry, I'm willing to bet they had been left over from the elvis festival on the weekend, 100% been Deep fried more than once, as well as the chips, terrible. Pretty sure the veggies came straight out of the fridge, stone cold, couldn't eat them, The salmon was such a let down down, the rice was straight out of a round take away container, just flipped over, terrible presentation, menu said comes with creamy oyster garlic sauce, FOUL, some lazy pieces of bok choy on the plate. Such and expensive meal, but when it's good, you don't mind paying for it, this was not good, unfortunately. Obviously there have been a change of management since we were last there, tip to who ever is running it, get a new cook, he is ripping the guts out of you, bet he charges through the roof too, it's actually sad, all the right bones for a great pub, but your cook, is letting the whole place down. Just my...
