Terrific views, but thats about where the good stuff ends. While staying in Port Douglas, we have accepted that things are just more expensive. But if a cafe is going to charge $77 for 2 coffees and 2 breakfast meals, I would expect the experience to be, at the very least, above average. Unfortunately, St Crispins did not meet expectations. The most expensive breakfast Iāve ever had, which got me microwaved mushrooms drowning in juice and raw garlic (inedible), ālovinglyā mashed avo with no seasoning or flavour, awful chorizo (couldnāt finish) and an un-drinkable soy latte. When the meals showed up on the table with supermarket grade focaccia instead of the sourdough listed on the menu, I knew straight away we werenāt gonna get our moneyās worth. There is absolutely nothing wrong with having a simple, no-frills menu, but you should at least put the high-quality ingredients on the plate that you are charging for. I even had to get up and order from the counter, which while accepting this is often common place, I would expect more from an establishment like this. In hindsight, I was too polite to ask for my money back or say something, which I now regret. I donāt know how this place has the got the reviews it has, perhaps we were just unlucky. But in truth, I suspect it was a lack of care. I can not recommend,...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreOur recent visit to St. Crispins in Port Douglas left us rather disappointed. Having been fans of this cafe in the past, we were shocked by the steep pricing on our most recent breakfast experience. I paid $28 for the rosti breakfast, which comprised just one rosti, one egg, hollandaise, spinach, and a quarter of an avocado. The cost of $28 for this meal seemed exceptionally high, especially considering that I would have expected more for that price, such as at least two eggs.
Moreover, if one wanted to add bacon to their meal, an additional $8 charge applied, further increasing the cost.
Furthermore, the pricing extended to beverages as well, with a $10 charge for a simple orange juice. While the food itself was decent, it fell far short of justifying the premium price tag. In Melbourne, where I frequently enjoy breakfast outings, such prices are well above the norm.
Additionally, it was disappointing to find that the prices were not displayed on the cafe's website, making it challenging to anticipate the cost beforehand. Also, the requirement to order at the counter seemed incongruent with the premium prices one would expect from such an establishment.
All in all, I cannot recommend this cafe based on our recent experience, which was marred by...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreSo okay itās beautiful and the service is fine, except for the price I donāt expect to order at the till and I have a pet hate about staff reaching over me to take empty plates, before I leave the table, I understand this is a personal preference but at least ask before just doing it.
Then the food. So for $8 I definitely expect more than half of a mushroom with my scrambled eggs, it says mushrooms on your menu so you failed to even reach the basic level of one mushroom, mushrooms is plural so at least 2 and cutting something into segments doesnāt make it more than one, 2 quarters is definitely not 2. The mushrooms were also supposed to be flavoured with garlic, but I honestly couldnāt taste it.
The hash browns and toast were fine, but the scrambled eggs were honestly gross, under seasoned, undercooked, liquidy like a cheap hotels breakfast buffet, I ate them, but Iām definitely regretting it, I wish I had said something about the eggs and mushroom(s) but itās my wifeās birthday and honestly I didnāt want to create a situation snd impact her day over something so trivial.
I considered 2 stars but honestly considering the price snd quality of the food it has to be 1 star, maybe if I had ordered something different the score...
