Honestly I’m so disappointed to be writing this review. Chipper fish used to be hands down the best seafood takeaway in Toowoomba.
I went in there for old times sake to find there’s new owners, ok no big deal, ordered food for myself wife, my father and myself for Good Friday.
Whilst waiting to order rude uber drivers just pushed their way to the front of the queue and the lady at the counter told me to wait for them even though the food they were collecting wasn’t even ready.
After ordering we were asked 3 times what we had ordered and they brought out the wrong food which I politely said that it wasn’t ours.
We certainly didn’t get what we ordered. We ordered 3 pieces of barramundi, two battered one crumbed, and a jumbo chips. The fish we got was certainly not barramundi. To be honest it tasted more like basa or tilapia. The chips were hard and tasteless as though they’d been refreshed in the fryer several times. And the lemon wedges we got reeked of fermentation.
Such a sorry fall from grace from what was the best fish and chips...
Read moreWe'd never, ever had a bad experience with the food at Chipper Fish until just recently. On the 09th of November we placed an order for some battered Dory, sweet potato fries, crumbed seafood sticks and some onion rings - unfortunately none of it was 'right'. The batter on the fish was pale, doughy and greasy.....the worst we'd ever tasted in fact. We had no idea what the fish was (we very much doubt it was Dory) but it was rubbery, dry and dark in places instead of being moist and white. The seafood sticks were greasy and battered instead of crumbed as we'd requested, the onion rings were cold and greasy, and the sweet potato fries weren't far off being burnt. It was truly awful and extremely disappointing. Maybe they had someone different doing the cooking that day....it seemed that way that's for sure. Not sure if we'll ever go back...
Read moreI did a review on this chip shop about 12yrs ago when I lived in Toowoomba just down the road. I gave it great review especially on the quality of the fish and the batter. It was outstanding. Hadn't had fish like that since living in the UK. I was in Toowoomba a couple of weeks ago and decided to go to Chipper Fish for a meal. I wasn't disappointed. It was just as good then as it was great those many years ago. So I took the wife who isn't a great fish lover last Saturday and she loved it. We are now probably going to make the journey from out of town once a week from now on to sink our teeth into that crispy battered fish. Well done to the owner for keeping the quality of the...
