EDITED REVIEW 10/25
Was very keen for son to try Flick based upon our sound past experiences. Ordered our burgers and found a table right up the back. Burgers arrived in cardboard boxes. Bummer - we're environmental types that despise disposable packaging. Oh well ... they seem to have new owners, so maybe this is their new policy. Noticed that prices had received a steep tick upwards, with the menus updated in Biro.
Noticed a couple sitting nearby had their burgers arrive on the customary cutting board with chips in the little rack. Just like they used to!! Now we're confused ... bit of a consistency issue??
Chips were absolutely terrific, my burger seemed OK, but son's bun was heavily burned on the inside and chicken overdone. He actually found an eyelash hair sitting proudly atop the mayo/sauce. Yuck!!
An hour or two later he began to feel really nauseous. I gave him lots of sympathy, thankful that my cast iron stomach saved me, but later that night I was woken with violent nausea that lasted well over an hour. Nobody else in the family felt sick whatsoever ... only he and I - the only ones that had experienced Flick. And we have by far the stoutest constitutions in the family!
Read into this what you will. I would have loved to have sent that meal to the lab for a path analysis. Here's the original for what it's worth ...
Read some great reviews about this place, and keen to get in on the action, so drove to Oakey exclusively to try them for a very late brekky. Got there 11.30 - between rushes, so nice and quiet.
Staff exquisitely courteous, chick schnitz burger monstrous, chips delightful, eggs Benny perfect, and came with 3 eggs done exactly right!! They even delivered a little Christmas chocolate each to our table with a big smile. We shared a choc milkshake ... just as well ... it too was huge and uncharacteristically (for most places) was actually filled above the top of the container and into the domed lid.
This place could simply not be any better, and land a perfect score - had it been out of 100, they would have got that too!! Only hope they stay nice and consistent, so our many return visits, and those of the folks we recommend will be just as good. Well done...
Read moreOakey is a sleepy town on a Saturday and not much is open. We wanted lunch but even the pub with a beer garden didn’t do food service. We needed outdoor dining because we had our dog with us. We wandered around and Flick was the only option. A small cafe that looked a bit basic so we didn’t know what to expect. Well… we were delighted. Lovely service, a really interesting menu and great food. It was really good. The lady serving I suspect maybe the owner was a bit scared of dogs but bravely came out and offered our dog a treat and offered her a bowl of water. Hospitality plus. I definitely...
Read moreA chance stop at Oakey this afternoon. Thought we would stop for a coffee and walk the dog. We spotted flicks and thought let's go there. 2pm was a quiet time. 2 coffee's and a couple of potato scallops. Well what a surprise 😮 And amidst everything out came the cook to see out dog Akira and give her some meat treats 😋 and a bowl of water. This was hospitality above and beyond. Well done guys. We will...
