I spent the weekend at Bunya Mountains with my hiking group. After the hike we went to Poppies on the Hill for coffee and refreshments. The closing time of the cafe was only half an hour away but the personnel welcomed us and they said everything on the menu was available. I decided to have scones made with Bunya nut flour and they tasted simply delicious. Coffee was great and all the members of the group were happy with their drinks and food. The experience was so positive that we come back the next day. The burgers were very tasty, the salad with the Bunya nuts was fresh and wholesome, ice coffee was delicious. The service was fast and the personnel very friendly. Again everyone enjoyed the real tasty nutritious food. The atmosphere of the place is fantastic, with tables outside facing the green loan and the forest. It is very relaxing and it the place offers tranquillity and chance of great conversations. Birds and wallabies are common and it is possible to buy suitable food for them and take photos. Certainly Poppies on the Hill contributed to make the weekend very special. I hope the Bunya nuts get introduced more and more...
Read moreThe home-made pies at this place were sooooo delicious! 🤩🤤 I had the lamb with salad and took the beef and bunya nut pie home (frozen). I love that they incorporated the bunya but in the meals to try. They had 3 types of soup which I was impressed with too.
I loved sitting outside in the sun on the little tables. The birds were flying around to visit, which was nice. I would recommend a little station point under the verandah outside where people can put thier scraps in the bin and leave thier plates in a container with a lid as the birds would scavenge all the leftovers from the plate. If the waitress asked me to do that, I would not mind at all as I know the birds should not be eating food outside what they normally eat or processed food 🙂 Plus, it grosses me out to think the birds might be pooping on the table or plates.
The cafe needs a bit of a spruce up to have a more warm, cosy and unique atmosphere. But other than that, I highly recommend, excellent service and would be my go to place if I ever came back 😊 And I would buy more pies to...
Read moreYesterday 50 people arrived at “Poppies on the Hill” for lunch. I had organised this function in advance weeks before with Sue and Jenny. Whilst all the guests fed the Lorikeets, Galas, and Cockatoos a wonderful Smorgasbord was being laid out for us, and what a beautiful spread it was. The table was laden with lovely platters of Ham off the Bone, Freshly cooked Chicken ( that morning) beautiful Salads and Coleslaw plus French Bread Sticks already buttered, there as plenty of food and the portions were most generous. We then were presented with Homemade Stick date Pudding or Freshly made Caramel Tart ( to die for). One of our guests could only eat Gluten Free food, and her lunch as also beautifully presented to her, plus Gluten Free bread. Everyone had a wonderful day, the weather picture perfect. I do not have any hesitation in recommending “ Poppies on the Hill”. This has been my 4th visit in 18 months, we will continue to go back, it is part of the Scenic Rim that is...
