South Cairns Sports Club — Restaurant in Queensland

My family and I went here a few months back when we first moved to Cairns and it was very good, so good infect that my wife decided she wanted to dine here again just to enjoy the food again, what was surprising is our 8 and 9yr old daughters remembered how nice the food was here and were excited.... Unfortunately all that anticipation quickly came to a dead halt once the garlic bread arrived which was very lack luster, hard and just tasted like buttered rolls, it even had wiltered salad greens on the side as garnish which seemed very odd. It got worse when the 3 salmons arrived with over powering sour hollandaise sauce and what I didn't realise was a kind of "baked" potato? The texture of the potato did not feel like potato and the skin if it was the skin of the potato was very burnt. All 3 dishes were of the same uneatable quality which just really ruined my wife and daughters time here. I had the beef cheeks, which I ordered the first time we dined here but this time it was very bland and the 2 bread rolls were rock hard. The weirdest thing though, was the kale in the mash. That was not enjoyable and i think, someone needs to question the person who came up with that horrible idea. Not sure if there are new staff in the kitchen or new management but overall the food left us with a sour and bitter taste in our mouths, literally. We wasted $150 on that food and when we only go out ever so often cause the price of living is difficult, we hope we get to have a pleasant experience. But like I said, the first time here at South's, we were very pleased but for whatever reason this time round, was so disappointing that we probably won't be dining here again. We went on a Saturday night and it was very busy the Host/Restaurant Manager very friendly & welcoming and found us a table quickly despite the fact we hadn't made a booking. Unfortunately that's where the good service ended. Upon collecting my meal, a steak, I wasn't given any sauce, when I asked for it, the server held the docket up in my face and snapped that I hadn't ordered any. Ummm actually I did! Instead of just saying "sorry it wasn't on the docket what sauce would you like?" I was made to feel somehow it was my fault it hadn't been included. I'm sure these thing happen from time to time. I didn't think I was being unreasonable asking for it. The server must of seen the look on my face and said "well we can only do what's on the order" Again, this was my fault?? My reaction was not to the no sauce but her reaction to my request to have some. In the end I got the sauce and the steak was as tough as old boots, so I don't think I'll be hurrying back...

WORST STEAK WE HAVE EVER HAD. We ordered Sirloin steak MEDIUM and RARE- the steak was just about well done and chewy. We were about 1/4 through eating our meal when a lady who seemed to be the restaurant manager? Came up and asked how our meals were, told her it was all severely overcooked and she looked at all our meals and said she’d see what she could do… 15 minutes later still sitting there with her ignoring us until we had finished our meals probably hoping we’d just leave and WE HAD TO WAVE HER OVER. She said the reason why the steaks were so over cooked was because they changed chefs and was nothing she could do as we didn’t initially go up. WHY ASK US THEN?!?
