Tim's Kitchen — Restaurant in Queensland

After checking reviews, I decided to give Tim's a go - for the first time for us both.

We ordered beef and black bean, mongolian beef, salt and pepper calamari and chef's special fried rice. We had originally ordered the twice cooked pork but they were sold out, rang us and asked us to pick something else. Total cost $81.00 Picked up, no delivery fee. Ready in 30 mins.

All of the meals were lovely but let's get specific.

The calamari was slightly tough - a touch overcooked but the batter was light and tasty. I found the serving size small for $18.00. The mongolian beef had a thinner sauce than the black bean which wasn't a strong flavour. Both dishes had mushroom which had I known, I would have avoided. Both beef dishes had wedges of onion, carrot and a couple of pieces of broccoli. All of the dishes smelled amazing.

The rice was under-whelming. Maybe I've got a different idea of special fried rice. I couldn't see any little shrimp, any bits of egg or pea - shrugs. I'm not an expert.

The staff were all friendly. The food was hot. The restaurant was completely full and despite this, there was no delay in meals. They cleared tables fast and the plates were empty on those tables. Clearly it's a popular place. There were people also coming to pick up meals and the staff were efficient.

I would order again but I would probably try something else to expand my review and experience with Tim's Kitchen.

Maybe it's rose-tinted goggles but out of all the restaurants I can remember from my time staying in Mackay for over 6 years, Tim's Kitchen is always the one I remember the most fondly. The food was so mouthwatering that even when I could buy and cook my own food, I still remember driving here because of how good my experience was. The prices were affordable, the food was all fresh, and the staff was willing to listen and follow-through with any and all of the requests I asked regarding food - which is always stellar when it comes to service. The food is made both fast and hot. The atmosphere of the store is warm and cozy with the moody interior and decorations. Most of the times I come here were by myself so take this with a grain of salt, but when I do come with others, it's like nothing has changed when it comes to how much I enjoy my time. If you're in Mackay and craving authentic Chinese food, look no further than Tim's Kitchen! I tried their signature Sichuan dishes—Mapo Tofu and Eggplant in Garlic Sauce—and was utterly blown away. 🥘 Mapo Tofu: The tofu was silky smooth, the minced meat was savory, and the sauce was the real star. The classic "mala" (numbing and spicy) flavor was absolutely authentic. The numbing sensation from the Sichuan peppercorns and the heat from the chili were perfectly balanced. It's utterly addictive! 🍆 Eggplant in Garlic Sauce: This dish was no less impressive! The eggplant was cooked until meltingly tender and soaked up all the delicious sauce. The famous "Yuxiang" sauce had the perfect balance of sweet, sour, salty, and a hint of spice, making it incredibly appetizing. It's the ultimate comfort food with a bowl of steamed rice—I could easily have two servings! All in all, this place is a real gem. Great service and a cozy atmosphere too.
