Slim pickings in Mackay on a Sunday evening, even for fish n chips

We chose Vella’s as it was the closest to our accommodation. Took about 20 minutes for two pieces of fish, chips and pineapple fritters (a tropical pack) 🍍

The fish was only available crumbed, looked great but quite dry, would have benefited from a wedge of lemon. The chips didn’t have the requested chicken salt and they were out of 600 ml soft drinks

The pineapple fritters were the highlight of our meal, cooked and sweetened perfectly 😋

Filled a hole and certainly edible but has room for improvement

Thank you for your prompt reply regarding suggested improvements. As mentioned - providing customers the option of battered fish or crumbed, adding a wedge of lemon, in-case the fish is dry or strongly flavoured, paying attention to a request for chicken salt (the counter staff wrote this on our order) and having your refrigerators stocked with drinks, would go a long way to improving your already solid offering.

Now I’m no Karen,but I Ordered a family meal nuggets and a fish burger lemon and sauce , got home and realised there was no burger and then later realised they also gave us the fish cooked wrong and no lemon/sauce, so I called up and asked them to either give me a burger or a refund ( I knew they were closing soon) and they said idk I’ll call you back then hung up on me. So I go to the store and the chef came up to me and was extremely rude then she told me I had to wait 30 minutes (they also would have been closed by then) and I said no can we please just get a refund and I’ll be on my way. So she gave me a dirty look and said “go bloody stand over there” there was a young girl there serving aswell she was very nice and the chef didn’t really talk to her with any respect. Do not recommend at all, and if the manager sees this please try and get in contact with me, you’s should have my details already. While I was there I witnessed another 2 people going in to talk to them about missing food in their order. In the end I got no money back and no burger. Very disappointed and the service was...

Pretty crazy...they absolutely didn't know what's going on the whole time I was there...(over 40 mins wait for a battered fish and a couple of potato scallops), only 3 people working though...... there was no cohesion and many times they had to consult with each other about what orders had what, and who had paid lol. One woman was over charged and they had to figure all that out as well. Nothing went well the whole time I was there. . Clearly there is no set way of doing anything. The fish and potato scallops were good...but not a patch on the Sydney Street store. Such a pity they are only open 4 days a week, they have their s#!t together 👍👍 The piece of fish is larger as are the potato scallops as well ...and thicker! Sydney St Vella's are hands...
