I'm not one for leaving a bad review, but my experience here was really poor, not down to the food or team, but the management.
We're staying in a big share house round the corner for a family birthday, so had booked a group of 22 of us to come in for lunch for a surprise 70th Birthday. Unfortunately due to bad weather all 20 family members were here, but the Birthday boys flight was cancelled leaving him stranded in Brisbane.
Of course this meant that we had to reluctantly postpone. We can't have a surprise Birthday lunch without the person whose Birthday it is! We were trying to figure out a way to get him to the Sunshine Coast to join us. I walked round the corner to tell them in person what had happened as soon as we got the news, which although they said was understandable, wasn't received very well by the manager, who was clearly annoyed at us and made multiple remarks about having to cancel staff she had organised to come in to help. I get it...it was an inconvenience. But absolutely nothing we could do about it, and I was very apologetic and promised that we would be in a few days later instead.
Following that I still paid for a breakfast and coffee myself, and then headed back this morning as I had an important video call to do. We're in a very busy, noisy house, full of screaming young children, so I thought the coffee shop would be a much better place to do that. Unfortunately it wasn't....
I sat down on a table that was tucked away around the corner. It was a bigger table, but the place had loads of space when I arrived. Mid meeting screens set up, headphones in on a video call, a staff member came and told me I had to move as they wanted to use the table for someone else. Fair, it was a bigger table that I only sat on due to it being the quietest area for my call. I asked if I could just have 10 minutes to finish my meeting (very embarrassing at this point with my client listening to me asked me move as he was trying to talk to me). The manager then came over and leaned over the table to say "We're not an internet cafe....oh and thanks for yesterday too (referencing our reluctantly cancelled meal)". My client had of course heard all of this. I apologised to him and had to finish my meeting on the phone pacing up and down the boardwalk.
Look, I get it. Bigger table. People wanting it. But there is a way to go about addressing that situation, and that was not it.
I would probably have been back to work from there all week to get out of the busy house. I would have thought that would be a good thing. And a rearranged meal for the 22 of us. Apparently you're not welcome to work from there. That should only be in "internet cafes"...are they even a thing any more? I won't be back. Neither will the family.
Food was fine. Younger staff members were friendly. Coffee...not great. My latte was supposed to be in a mug. It came in a glass and was literally 50% foam. Management...very blunt and rude.
In an area with so many lovely coastal cafes in close proximity I'd recommend walking past this one and grabbing a drink at a place with a less frosty reception and a coffee that doesn't...
Read moreOur party of four arrived just before am on a Sunday. We stood waiting to be seated for sometime. The waitress explained that we had missed the breakfast service and lunch didn't start till 11:30 but she would check with the kitchen regarding breakfast. We then overheard another waitress say that breakfast was finished. We were happy to get coffee and cake. The first waitress eventually returned ( she apologised saying they had been smashed...there were only about five tables left at this point) and took out order. 1 cappuccino, 1 english breakfast tea, 1 flat white, 1 latte, 1 muffin, 1 plain scone with jam and cream, 1 cheese cake and 1 lemon coconut pie. I didn't think it was overly complicated. The table beside us ordered as we sat down. They were still able to get breakfast. The cappuccino and English breakfast tea came out quite quickly but the tea came with no milk but honey instead. Go figure? We asked that the honey be exchanged for milk. The waitress didn't listen. The two other coffees and food did not arrive.By this time there were even less patrons in the restaurant. The honey tea just sat there. When I complained again the waitress was still distracted and repeated being smashed. We said that in all likelihood we had someone else order. Again we were not listened to. By now the people who ordered just before us had there meals but no coffee and tea. Yes, we had there drink order. Finally the waitress dragged herself away from the order computer and tried to fix up our order. We had been there over 35 minutes. I suggested we order lunch but the rest of my table wryly stated it wouldn't arrive till closing. The coffees and teas with milk came out and THREE of the food items. No muffin. This is getting beyond ridiculous. We had to AGAIN call the waitress ( not once was she proactive about dealing with the issues). The muffin that one of our party ordered, the last had been given to another customer...who came after us. We were happy to have ANY muffin. We were told it would be free. Frankly we should not have bother. The food was not good. The service...well what service. We...

We were a large group of twelve, and they effortlessly accommodated us, making everyone feel welcome and comfortable. One of the standout features of our dining experience was how well-coordinated everything was. Despite our size, all our meals arrived together and promptly, which is a rarity in many establishments. This attention to detail ensured that everyone could enjoy their food at the same time, adding to the overall enjoyment of the morning. Moreover, the staff went above and beyond by accommodating our request to split the bill, making the end of our meal seamless and hassle-free. This kind of flexibility is greatly appreciated when dining out with a large group. And speaking of the foodâwow! The dishes were not only delicious but also beautifully presented. Curly's on The Boardwalk has definitely earned a place in my list of favorite breakfast spots. The combination of great food, a welcoming atmosphere, and outstanding service from their friendly staff makes it a standout choice for both locals and visitors alike. Whether you're dining with a large group or seeking a cozy meal for two, I highly recommend giving Curly's a tryâyou won't be...
