Don’t recommend for vegans - My partner and I have been coming here to eat some time as my parents live locally and we have had no problems up until now. The last two times we have eaten here we asked for the usual vegan option for the mushroom burger which is advertised, but unfortunately the last time they put cheese on it and the next time we ate there they put mayo on.
As vegans, we understand accidents happen and we are quite patient when there seems to be a lack of knowledge on what is vegan and what isn’t. But our main problem is how unapologetic the staff were. The last time we had to get it remade and only got a quick ‘sorry’ when leaving, but the second time when mayo was put on it no apologies were offered and the cashier seemingly tried to lie by saying it was a “special mayo”, but when asked if the bottle could be viewed, she just said it would be remade. Unfortunately I ate half of it before realising..
It is a shame that we will no longer be visiting the Messy Hen to eat as it was one of our favourite cafes, but due to the lack of respect of how we want our food made and being unapologetic when a mistake has been made, we are sad that today will be the last time we eat there.
For future vegan customers that visit, I suggest training staff on what vegans are morally against consuming and teaching staff to be overly apologetic when mistakes have been made as losing customers as a small business is not...
Read moreIn the nicest way possible and I hope this is helpful feedback, the pancakes and the rosti is soooooo dry and both lacked sauce. The tiny tiny bit of sticky date sauce on the pancakes was delicious but it barely was enough for even the first pancake it was on, if there was more it definitely would’ve helped mask the mega dry pancakes.
The Rosti Benni had barely a drop of hollandaise sauce (maybe for the best because the bit I did taste was like straight mustard??), it was so dry I couldn’t pick it up on a fork without it crumbling, had no taste and the poached eggs were so overcooked there was no runny yolk in sight, we received broccoli instead of asparagus as well which would have made us change dishes if we had known.
The area is really nice, quiet and peaceful. The cafe I think would be good for a coffee but truthfully the food was some of the worst we...
Read more2 poached eggs on one piece of ciabatta, bacon, mushrooms, hash brown and hollandaise with a peach kombucha cost me $34. Forgot the hashbrown. One rasher of bacon. These were paid extras so I would have expected much better. The mushrooms were huge, very lemony but a nice taste. Eggs were cooked well. The staff were lovely. No water was brought out for one of pur party, we had to ask and these seemly easiest dish of all came out 25 mins after the first dish, again we had to ask where it was. The bench chairs where we sat were pretty wobbly. Probably a bit of maintainence required. Also Probably should designate a pick up area as the seating was minimal and taken up by people waiting for a coffee as opposed to eat in customers. It was busy so I'm going to put the mistakes down as that. I would try there again. Everyone enjoyed their brekkie and it's a...
