We visited Fishtales Seafood Cafe, Mapleton, Sunday eve. I found no entry in hard copies of local phone directories or Telstra phone books but website though easily on computer and rang. They picked up quickly with courtesy and she was happy to take an order over phone without payment stating she could only take eftpos and mentioning a closing time. She suggested and welcomed us to eat at the front table even if they were closing...so we didn't have to hurry over our meal together. Ample parking space, frogs croaking in the lake next door with winding pathways for walking in the cool of the evening and enough light to enjoy hinterland serenity moments and light enough provided to see what we were eating. We chose and ordered crumbed whiting, prawn cutlets, scallops, chips and a salad; the latter which is a knockout six star for nutrition and taste from my mate. We thought it was quinoa, with tiny capsicum bits, a tasty cut up rocket lettuce with other flavours that I could not identify to duplicate this ample meal for one, by itself, at home. Fish was good too, with lemon. Beverages and desserts available. Nice and easy relaxed place with tables inside and out. Could have a live muso who could get a free meal, playing for an hour...by prior request. This review is too wordy, so...9 for the salad...chips serve and size is good for those who are not supposed to eat chips. Crispy chips thin long size. Good. Fish good. Fish healthy. Eat more fish! Meal for 2 was 37$. Nambour TAs fish and chip shops are cheaper but don't have the seating capacity nor the atmosphere, and we wanted to celebrate a birthday and just being alive!. Should have got some...
Read moreFishlies Cafe. Wanted to get fish and chips after Baxter Falls Trail run but was disappointed with the under portioning and the quality of the food which took 40mins to make. Would of Had better luck going to k mart, buying a hair straightener and curling the chips myself. Asked for extra chicken salt but the only salt I could see was seeping from my tears as I was made false promises. $19 for a meal is steeper than the trail and youâd expect a generous portion but the only thing generous was myself giving the place any business. Despite longer wait times than KFC drive Through on a Tuesday, when the food arrived I was told one of the sauces I bought she didnât have despite telling me she had one available when I made my purchase.
Also found it very offensive that the only people they asked for âChristian namesâ were the only coloured people in the restaurant, myself and my friends with the lady at the counter not asking for Christian names of anyone else that walked in after.
Only added the extra star from one because when we didnât receive enough lemons for the fish she gave us enough for a...
Read moreWe are long time customers of Fishtails and traditionally every Friday night order fish and chips for our family. Everytime we order over the phone we are told the wait time and itâs never on time. It seems like there is the standard âthat will be 30minutesâ. We donât mind waiting 5mins, but everytime itâs 15minutes plus and last night we waited an extra 30 minutes in store on top of our original 30minutes. We wouldn't be so annoyed if originally over the phone we were told âsorry, we are really busy tonight. It will be an hour waitâ. But we are constantly told the incorrect wait time and are sick of waiting. The price of fish has gone up ridiculously. We used to pay $12, now itâs increased to $16 per piece. I understand prices need to increase, but not when the quality & taste has gone downhill. Unfortunately due to last nightâs (Friday 18th April) quality, price & another long wait time not advised, we have now decided to change our Friday night tradition of fish and chips; and we will be getting takeaway from another...
