The Mapleton Pub - What a letdown in every sense except for the view. Totally disinterested staff walking around making sure they don't make eye contact with their customers.. with a ridiculously overpriced menu serving poor quality pretentious food and serving such small portions we left after paying $165 for lunch for two and went down the road to a cafe to have excellent coffee and beautiful homemade cake. This was supposed to be a special birthday lunch which we told them when we booked..we arrived and after standing around for over 5 mins to find a staff member who finally arrived from the back to simply ignore us and walk past to acknowledge someone else who came in after us..no acknowledgement re birthday or greeting when she finally came to us..she just pointed to a table and walked away..we had a table on the verandah. Then waited and waited with 2 young waitresses walking up and down past us chatting to each other and ignoring every table. It wasn't overly busy, and people were waiting dotted around at tables everywhere hoping to see their meals come out. After 20 mins I flagged down a passerby waitress and ordered. I was so hungry I ordered the $10 garlic bread to have with a wine..well finally 20 mins later it arrived and, it was one slice of garlic bread for $10!! Unbelievable, I thought it was a mistake as it didn't even look like garlic bread...it was hard and hideous and dry with crunchy green garlic granules poured over the top..then the main arrived another 20 min wait..a half a chicken was sounding really good by that stage..well it wasn't good..it was dry and chewy and looked so sad on the plate. This restaurant was outstanding for all the wrong reasons..I would never set foot in there again nor recommend it to anyone I know. Also, usually a restaurant has a different lunch menu to the dinner here they are both the same. Here, it's just a rip off lunch at full dinner prices with staff who seem to forget they are there to serve customers. The only reason I gave it One star is for the view. Probably why a lot of people call in there. One birthday lunch I would like to forget! This place has so much potential in the right hands. These people that run it are laughing all the way...
Read moreMyself and my mother had lunch at the restaurant on Friday 3rd. We arrived to a very long line, and became worried we hadn’t booked in advanced. But, once we got to the maître ‘d, she was very understanding and accomodating. She said it would be roughly a 30 minute wait time. She invited us to have a couple of drinks at the bar, and they would come and get us, upon a table being ready. Within 5 minutes, we sat at the bar and ordered a drink. Then the restaurant manager came to us and said we had a table… which I was very shocked and happy about. Following that we had a SPECTACULAR 3 course meal. Now… I have to make a very very special mention to the staff. The maître ‘d , The restaurant manager and the bar staff were all welcoming, approachable, accomodating and great. But, I have to also make a VERY VERY VERY special mention to Eva! She took care of us throughout our entire dining experience, and she was absolutely spectacular. She was naturally, welcoming, knowledgeable, approachable, accommodating, kind and had EXCELLENT AND EXEMPLARY customer service!
The only unfortunate part of our dining experience was a family that were having lunch there as well. They had small children there, and unfortunately chose to not properly parent their children. The children were running around like it was a (MacDonalds playground) yelling and screaming. They were making a mess of the table.. and also making it difficult for the staff to work properly, as the children were left to do as they were, and the parents clearly showed that they didn’t care. They did not properly parent their children. They showed a severe lack of respect and consideration to the restaurant staff and patrons. To the point where, my mother also at one point had to use the restrooms and found that the restroom had been used by the parents and children and had been left in a disgusting way.
So… of course parents have to bring their children, but they must show respect to the restaurant, the staff and the patrons. Otherwise, they should dine at a venue which is suited better to their own low standards.
But the restaurant, the staff, the food and the whole experience was excellent.
And Eva made it even...
Read moreI’ve been wanting to come here for years as apparently the food is supposed to be good and their marketing make it seem like something special.
Well I was completely underwhelmed. It’s a basic pub with basic pub food.
I had a chicken burger costing $30. Happy to pay this price for delicious, quality food.
Unfortunately it wasn’t. Had to send it back as my order was wrong and they had not put any sauce on it.
Bun was dry and not toasted, three large pieces of lettuce past their prime with three tiny pickles, a slice of processed cheese and a soggy, just warm chicken thigh (supposed to be crispy buttermilk fried) that was so stingy in size it didn’t even cover the bun. Overall it was unbalanced, boring and bland and certainly not worth $30. The chips were good but over salted.
There is no table service, you have to go the main bar to order, not even a dedicated service area.
Three staff behind the bar but only one serving customers so people are waiting and not even acknowledged. However the young girl with coloured hair was lovely.
A bloke was smoking which drifted over to me and made eating the meal unpleasant. I’m pretty sure you aren’t allowed to smoke where people are eating. Staff did not care.
Bathrooms are in very bad shape and need renovation.
Unfortunately I think this place is overpriced and overrated. Such a shame!
Edit for business response: If you can't do basic pub food really well I don't have hopes for anything else!! A $30 burger needs to be delicious if you want to retain customers, no matter what day of...
