We took the drive out to this place due to the claims of being authentic Italian. Being in Fairfield, my hopes weren't high that the quality of ingredients would be there, or that it would be much more than your standard Italian pizzeria.
I was mistaken.
The cozy, dimly lit restaurant made it feel intimate and homely. We were given a nook table for two with a cute stool propping the drinks menu. The service was welcoming, and very friendly. The staff were knowledgeable and helpful. The food was fresh, served hot and tasted great.
Now, many people who haven't been to Italy don't actually know what true al dente is. They nailed it. This is exactly how they serve it in Italy.
The only let down was the desserts. I ordered the Panna cotta, my partner ordered the banoffee. The panna cotta was not set, and ran off my spoon. A sad outcome as the flavours were all there. The banoffee was also a little bit odd, with the comment from my partner being "is this cream off?". It wasn't, the flavour profiles were just not quite balanced.
The other detractor was serving the desserts in jars. I respect being rustic and going for the "home made" angle, but a ramekin would have served far better and made for easier eating.
Overall, this place hits the mark for good, flavourful, authentic Italian. I noticed they do a special couples dinner for Valentines day that looked fantastic, and have a function room for 40 in an adjoining room.
I hope the locals support this place, the food was priced accordingly for the quality of ingredients. You can tell the team here really care about their...
Read moreI’ve heard so much about this authentic Italian restaurant in Fairfield. Gigino is situated in a suburban area and is absolutely the locals favourite, and is so good it’s worth travelling for. They have a cute little bar area at the front, but then you step out the back to their dining room with beautiful fairy lights, candles and paintings on the wall.
The food is next level, they have the most delicious woodfired pizza bases, and a good selection of appetisers, pastas and desserts – as well as an extensive list of beer, wine, cocktails and mocktails.
We had: Focaccia – Garlic, Mozzarella & Honey Burrata - Cherry Tomatoes, Basil, Extra Virgin Olive Oil Arancini Battered Fried Zucchini Blossoms, Prawn Cutlets, Nduja Mayonnaise, Parmigiano Spaghettone – Prawns, Crab Meat, Light Tomato Sugo & Chilli Spaghetti Bolognese Gnocchi – Truffled Cream & Mushroom Luigi – Mozzarella, Mushrooms, Prosciutto, Parmigiano, Truffle Pesto Fichi – Figs, Mozzarella, Sopressa Salami, Miele (Special) Polpette – Meatballs, Basil, Smoked Mozzarella, Cherry Tomatoes Banoffee Pie Tiramisu
An amazing feast! Especially the focaccia with garlic and honey, and the prawn and crab spaghetti! A great spot for your next date night, friends catch up or even an event!

Read moreHonestly, some of the best pizza & traditional Italian food I've had in a long long time! My italian parents first went there and couldn't stop raving on about it, so I had to see for myself. The pizza dough is honestly, perfect and like any proper Italian restaurant... the food and flavours are simple, delicious and authentic. Everything is done in-house including their pastas and desserts. I've tried a fair bit of their menu but looking forward to trying it all, so far nothing has dissapointed. They also sell the best Nduja you can get. Thank you Gigino for showing that good Italian food, done properly is still alive & happening in the suburbs. The fact you guys are still going strong is testament to how you guys have the formula right. Also, the fact that these guys are located in the Fairfield/Cumberland area is an extra bonus too - no need to travel into the inner city etc for good Pizza. The staff are really nice, one in particular who I can't recall her name... she was really bubbly, conversational and friendly. Also, the boss is a legend - super nice guy, honest and committed to the craft....
