Hey before I get into it I want to say I like and prefer supporting locally owned and operated cafes. It adds to the community and the profits don’t go to some greedy multi-national corporation.
I once bought orange juice from you guys and it tasted horrible, it tasted like supermarket orange juice, which was only half full anyway cause the rest was ice, it didn’t taste good and was really overpriced. I thought its okay I just wont buy the orange juice next time.
Another time I ordered a mocha and asked for extra chocolate as I wanted it extra chocolaty and was more than happy to pay extra and I’m pretty sure I mentioned to the server I’d be happy to pay extra. It ended up being one of the worst mocha’s I’ve ever had, it was bland and couldn’t taste much chocolate. I thought its okay, ill just buy normal straight coffee from these guys and go elsewhere if I wanted something more complicated.
Another time I came to eat some lunch. As I waited in line to order, One of the ladies screamed at me out of nowhere that “Its table service. You have to sit down !!!”. She screamed some other things aswell but It was all very rude, disrespectful and out of the blue. Another lady came and said “I don’t know why she did that”. The lady who screamed later explained herself, But it was a very half baked, Slightly insincere apology. She said “sorry” as she was physically walking away from me. Usually someone should look someone in the face if they genuinely want to apologise. I thought its fine, at least she came and tried to apologise, Lets put it behind us and move forward, small businesses have it hard enough as it is I want to support local cafes
Another time I called the café in advance to ask if they were still doing food, The lady on the phone said the kitchen was still open and told me what the kitchen closing time was and that food orders would be available until then. I arrived with plenty of time before the kitchen close time but when I went up to order the girl at the counter told me that the kitchen was closed. I curiously tried to explain to her that I called in advance and was told on the phone that the kitchen was still open and that it was well before the close time that was mentioned to me over the phone. As I was half-way through my sentence the barista cut me off and said, “kitchen is closed, sorry!” in a passive-aggressive, standoffish manner. He had a very disrespectful tone and attitude. Now I accept that tone and attitude is something that can be interpreted in different ways but I’ve worked in hospitality for 7 years Including three cafes, I know a disrespectful tone and attitude when I see one because I’ve seen so many variations of it.
The following is in part what made me decide to give a one star review and you can chose to believe me or not but there’s no reason for me to make it up. I was at another local café chatting to the barista and we were talking about other cafes and another random lady waiting for her coffee chimed into the conversation. It was very random and out of the blue but as we spoke about other local cafés in the area she mentioned she doesn’t like grind and co and that she’s stopped going there and when I asked why, She said “The barista is a very rude man”. Now you shouldn’t just believe the words of a random lady but what she described to me was very similar to the experiences I had. Out of all the different cafés we spoke about, grind and co was the only one she spoke negatively about. You guys are repeatedly making the same mistakes with different customers. I myself gave you guys a tone of chances before I...
Read moreStopped in at Grind & Co Pemulwuy for lunch today and was really impressed. I ordered the steak sandwich and it was outstanding – the steak was tender, perfectly cooked with a nice pink centre, and packed full of flavour. The bread was fresh, the fillings were generous, and everything came together really well. It’s definitely one of the better steak sandwiches I’ve had in a café setting.
The menu itself is very appealing with so many great options that it actually made it hard to decide – which only means I’ll have to come back soon to try more. The coffee was also excellent, rich and smooth, which is exactly what you want from a café.
The atmosphere was relaxed and welcoming, with a nice outdoor seating area that’s perfect for enjoying a sunny day. Service was friendly, and I found the pricing to be fair for the quality and portion size.
Overall, Grind & Co is a great spot whether you’re after a good meal, a coffee catch-up, or just a relaxed place to sit outside and enjoy. I’ll definitely be returning soon to try more...
Read moreEdit for the benefit of the owner : nothing outrageous in my review below. I first spoke to the girl cleaning tables. She then got the girl taking orders, who then got the manager, who came across finally. She had been sitting with the dog owner talking for some time, clearly oblivious to the dogs disruption.
Maybe you would be better served addressing the incident and learning what happened rather than trying to defend a staff member without any course of action being taken
Original review: Absolutely horrible atmosphere. Manager was more interested in sitting and talking with a dog owner, whose dog was whining and carrying on for 20 minutes.
Manager is also overbearing and over familiar with guests. It was my second visit here and both times felt claustrophobic from the service.
Its no wonder she did not have the capacity to ask a woman with a disruptive dog to leave, and seemed happier to have other guests, who had already ordered, walk out without seeing the meal they had...
