Just YUM 🤤 an extremely satisfying meal. We had seen the restaurant from outside on a walk & loved the look. We got back to our room and looked up their website. Unfortunately their website doesn’t do their menu Justice and that is a great shame.
We are staying nearby and had looked at the menus online and had honestly decided to give it a think….? While we discovered what else is nearby.
The location has some great dining choices within a 10 min walk up each direction of Military rd,. From the Oaks to a kebab, or a great Thai worth waiting for…. The list is long and competition high.
A couple of days had past and, I noticed an enticing sight, as there was an overflow of diners to the outdoor dining areas on a chilly night & decided, if they are willing to sit there & dine, the food must be worth it.
THEY ARE RIGHT 👍🏼🤤😋🤩
Determined, the next night (Sunday) my partner and I made our way to Radio Cairo and were placed on an available inside table. They were again busy and friendly.
From the smells walking in, our appetites grew as large as our eyes at the comforting surrounds. It felt a bit like home with the darker colours, relaxed cozy atmosphere and a low hum of diners oh with oldie movies playing silently in the background left us plenty to look at while there.
after a Quick look at the share menu, we had some Flat Brad & stuffed olives ordered and on their way.
We decided on 4 share meals & a main along with a slash of a delicious SA Red - Delicious.
I highly recommend you share; -The flat bread with caramelised onion The Salmon Ceviche the Lamb
We talked to 3 staff, all of them delightful and ready, when asked, with suggestions or advice on meal/wine selection.
We did order too much, and our stomachs and wallet felt it 😜 but in a good way.
We will be going back soon for an encore- perhaps you...
Read moreIf you can't be bothered reading the rest of my review then just read this: don't bother going to radio Cairo. When we walked in to a half filled restaurant mid week without a booking, we were given the look of annoyance and disappointment when when said we didn't have a booking. Despite the restaurant being half empty. He 'found' us a table and we took a seat, got a menu and began to peruse the the exception ally long list (2 pages) of menu items. We had some questions about the menu like how much we should order or how much would be enough for us .Nobody came. 20 mins we sat there and nobody came. I timed it. We started to stand up to walk out and head to papaya across the road when the waiter must have finally remembered we were there. So we begrudgingly sat back down and placed an order. The popcorn chicken that we ordered ended up being prawn .(menu was quite confusing- even though when I re-read the menu it did say prawn) it actually tasted pretty good. That is where the one star comes from. We ordered pork ribs which were ridiculously sweet. Others in our table couldn't eat them. The pineapple glazed tandoori chicken was dry as a chip. Almost inedible. Oh and the "bongo bread" was like a cold English muffin with partially melted cold cheese on it topped with cold out of season chopped tomatoes .like a really bad bruschetta . The clincher for me was that they have one of those EFTPOS machines that encourages you to leave a tip. Haha you didn't do anything to deserve a tip not even close. I would recommend not wasting your time or money and go to any one of the hundreds of restaurants in the area. But not...
Read moreWe decided to give it a go as the description on google sounded interesting and seemed to have good reviews. Well, we were "greeted" by a waitress who made it a point to communicate her displeasure with us turning up without a booking. Sorry for the inconvenience Miss. She sat us at the bar which was perfect for us as my partner had a sore back and so he could stand. BUT the way my seat was located, she (the same Miss) kept kicking the legs of my seat or bumping my handbag as she walked past behind me...only her and not the other staff. When she took our order (I placed the order), her face was so icy cold, I felt like she was looking down on me and it was beneath her to take my order. We ate the food though I felt it was quite lacking for the price (the chicken came suspiciously quick!!! And the roti, tasted and looked more like a Mission Wrap from Woolies). I asked for the bill, I checked the bill (which was quite expensive for the quality of food and size of serving), I paid the bill and as she walked away, I turned around and noticed her whispering to the other waitress and I could tell that they were talking about my checking the bill. Someone please explain to her that it is the customer's prerogative to check the bill. Before we left, I took her aside and asked her whether us coming to the establishment was a problem. She tried very hard to explain her behaviour. We had come in without a booking (the place was NOT busy) and my seat was in the way to where she needed to go to "clean the glasses" (she sat us there)!!! Would...
