The Local Pantry — Restaurant in Sydney

Such a shame this place has gone downhill lately. Food really lost its quality. The service is disorganised and a bit rude and inexperienced. The two times we’ve been in the last few months (we thought the first time was just an off day) we’ve had to ask for a knife and fork after our meals have been served, and have found it so hard to catch the attention of the multiple young staff wondering around with seemingly nothing to do or leaning behind the counter chatting in groups. There’s no sign on the menu that says order and pay at the counter, so when I politely signalled and asked to order and was met with a blank look, it was a bit annoying. The pies we had today were tiny (about the size of my palm) and the meat was very tough. My husband’s one was cold on the inside. The mash served with mine was cold too. The milkshake we ordered last time; the girls behind the counter must have forgotten to put any syrup or ice cream in at all because it was literally just frothy plain milk with cream on top. Came based on a recommendation. We went on a Sunday with friends at what was obviously a very busy time as the cafe was very full (10:30am). I think for the amount of staff they had they did very well to manage everything but felt as though it really let them down only having 1 person run the floor. It’s very self-serviced based which is fine, I saw other patrons seating themselves and grab their own table water and things. Our drinks took a decent 15 minutes to come out and then by the time our friends had finished their drinks and food which came from the display cabinet, we had to request an update for meal which came from the kitchen (we only ordered an smash avo on toast). I think we waited between 35-45mins for that meal. I understand staffing can be challenging but felt as though a lot of these critiques can be solved by having an additional person. From the moment you set your eyes upon The Local Pantry, you can tell THEY CARE ABOUT THEIR CUSTOMERS. We were hungry, driving through the area and found this place! I am so grateful we did! From their decor, to the impeccable service, to the way they wrap their takeaway cutlery... everything feels like it is created and made for you with such passion and love. We ordered take away and the staff came out to deliver it to us across the road served on wooden board platters, talk about service! What's even better than this is that the food was DELICIOUS. We ordered the poke bowl, steak sandwich, banana bread and fresh juice and you can taste that it is truly all made with LOVE. THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR CREATING A BEAUTIFUL EXPERIENCE FOR US.
