A Disastrous Meal at Tothy Brothers Deli - 1 out of 5 stars
Tothy Brothers Deli, a place so highly praised, lured me in with its glowing reputation. But what I encountered was a cruel masquerade of culinary mediocrity dressed in the guise of excellence.
The Philly cheesesteak was a tragic disappointment. It tasted as though it had been sitting out, forgotten and forlorn, before it finally arrived on my plate. There was no hint of freshness—only the stale, lifeless texture of neglect.
The Reuben sandwich was an assault on the palate. Overwhelmingly salty, it lacked even a whisper of the balanced flavours I had expected. Each bite was a grim reminder of how flavourless excess can be.
And the tacos—oh, the tacos. A Sunday special that should have been a celebration of bold, vibrant tastes was instead a culinary travesty. These tacos could only inspire sorrow, a sad mockery of Mexican cuisine.
The entire experience left me questioning if I had stumbled into a deli or some purveyor of overpriced dog food. To see a 4.7-star rating associated with this establishment feels like a cruel joke.
Tothy Brothers may dazzle others, but for me, it was a bitter lesson in misplaced trust. I cannot, in good conscience, recommend this place to anyone seeking a truly...

We tried the Philly cheesesteak, the Reuben sandwich, and the smoked beef brisket tacos. The Philly cheesesteak was underwhelming at best—a far cry from the flavourful and satisfying sandwiches you’d find in Philly itself. The Reuben sandwich, unfortunately, was overly salty, and the sourdough turned soggy far too quickly, making it an unappetising mess. The smoked beef brisket tacos were the best of the bunch, but even they leaned too heavily on salt, overshadowing the smokiness of the meat.
While the food wasn’t terrible, it was far from impressive and didn’t live up to the lofty expectations set by its ratings. I suspect the glowing reviews may be due to the local demographic, whose culinary exposure doesn’t extend far beyond Sydney’s so-called “latte line.” For anyone with a more refined palate, this deli might not...
Read moreWe chose this cafe because of the delicious Reuben sandwiches we’d had there before. Unfortunately this time we were underwhelmed. My cauliflower dish was tasty, and the cos lettuce dressing on my salad was good. The $12 cocktails were great! The waitress asked us if we wanted dessert before she cleared the dinner dishes. The music was a little loud making it hard to hear conversation. The main problem was the ridiculously high prices. My husband had a $38, 250g steak with no accompaniment. The side of brussel sprouts he had was an extra $12. Others had a vey plain meatball roll for $24 that only had 3 bland rissoles and very little else. The dinner for 5 people ended up costing $241 including a tip, for an ordinary little cafe in a suburban street of Cromer/Wheeler Heights. Not fine dining, very casual, but insane prices! We...
