Dining Experience @ The Cannery. . Only after arriving at The Cannery did I recall I'd visited the location before, though it was a different restaurant back then. Opened in December 2019, The Cannery is a casual restaurant serving hearty and homely dishes, made using the freshest seafood sourced from the nearby pristine waters. . Some excellent Fish And Chips (AUD $30) here, with the locally sourced blue eye travalla fish coated in a crisp golden batter, flaky and moist with sweet savoury salty flavour. Their rendition of coleslaw is fresh and crunchy, lacking the sour notes, bursting in lovely vegetal sweet milky flavour. Served alongside medium-cut potato shoestring chips, which have starchy salty savoury flavour and a crisp fluffy bite. . Enjoyed the Salt & Pepper Calamari Squid (AUD $30) with its large chunks of bouncy chewy calamari squid coated in a light and crisp spiced batter, carrying robust sweet salty savoury spice flavour. Their rendition of coleslaw is fresh and crunchy, lacking the sour notes, bursting in lovely vegetal sweet milky flavour. Served alongside medium-cut potato shoestring chips, which have starchy salty savoury flavour and a crisp fluffy bite. . The Seafood Linguine (AUD $36) has a base of slippery smooth al-dente linguine pasta noodles tossed aglio olio style, carrying grainy sweet savoury spice flavour. A dash of rocket leaves / arugula and cherry tomatoes lend a juicy crunch and vegetal bitter herbal sweet flavour. Garnished with a good medley of seafood, including crunchy shell-on prawns, bouncy calamari squid, tender flathead fish chunks, and bouncy scallops, all with sweet savoury salty flavour. Finished with lemon juice and red chili. A delicious dish.

First, how did I not know of this place before now?! Second, if you want a superlative seafood experience get a booking in, quick! The menu doesn't appear fancy in looks but it's packed with plenty of choice for the pescatarians and carnivores alike. The wind was blowing so we stayed inside but there are wind screens and a sail shade for those braving the elements. The fried seafood platter for 2 was ordered along with some pear cider. Batten down the hatches because this plate was heaving with wonderful produce! The salt and pepper squid was so tender. The multitude of variously presented prawns were divine. Blue grenadier in crispy batter, scallops, crackers and salmon and aspic paté also adorned the plate. The bed of crispy fries bulked up the dish but it was impossible for us to finish (unfortunately). Finally some light coleslaw and a very handy finger bowl for cleanup was provided for us mucky pups that eat with our fingers. Now take this bit with a grain of salt... If we had space for dessert, which we didn't, this may have been the only downside to the dining experience. There may be other choices than the cake display but this did not inspire even a cheeky takeaway treat. Coming to the Cannery should be all about the history and legacy of the building, site, views and taste sensation. I'm jealous of the size of the crays that were available way back when. The map of shipwrecks around Tasmania was down right alarming with the massive number of names and dates scribbled all around the state. If you are heading down the Peninsula you should definitely consider a refreshment stop to keep you going

JUST KEEPS IMPROVING I dined at the cannery a few years ago and have seen a huge improvement in both the meals and service. My rating is based on similar venues with similar menus It was a chilly day and the wood heater kept us toasty warm even though the room is large and spacious the feel of curling up on your lounge next to the fire was there. However if you were still cold they supply blankets , which none of us required The service I couldn't fault , the staff were friendly helpful but not over powering , arriving at the right amount of time. The venue was rather busy but nothing a problem for the wait staff There were 10 of us and the menu had a great variety of food to choose from I chose the seafood platter and it was amazing. Just the right amount of food, and some salad to cut through the fatty batter The steak was also a hit at our table , cooked exactly as ordered Everyone at our table enjoyed their meal, service and atmosphere The only complaint was the salt and pepper squid was over seasoned and not enjoyable , but that is the exact reason I never order salt and pepper squid as in almost all cases the seasoning is way too over powering Great family day out with great memories, great choice of venue

Food was good. Customer service was shockingly horrendous and completely unprofessional. The manager was so condescending, rude and had so much attitude right off the bat, acting like customers were a waste of her time and irritating. After waiting for cutlery on our table we went to the counter and asked for some after which they were scrambling to scrape some together. Our food was being taken to a different table as we weren't given a table number. When I went to ask about our food as we had waited some time the manager was really irritated, sighed and blamed me for not taking the table number. The issue I take is not the lack of organisation, the wait nor the mix up but her terrible attitude, aggression and condesention. She only escalated tensions with each interaction while I remained calm and respectful. The whole interaction gave me a bad taste in my mouth and was really unsettling. I feel like I was interacting with a toddler that hadn't had a nap. It's completely unacceptable to talk to or treat people like that, customer or not. When the correct food was brought to the table she apologized for her behaviour and said that they hadn't eaten all day and had been run down from serving all day. I'm glad she apologized but I'm still so shocked and shaken by...
