I was severely underwhelmed by the quality of food at Canteen. After hearing great things about it from friends I was excited to visit.
I purchased a King Fish Poke bowl which was served extremely dry, at room temperature, with what seemed to be microwaved brown rice. It was very flavourless except for the small bits of partly caramelised tinned pineapple scattered throughout the dish.
My partner purchased the teriyaki chicken salad which had amazing flavour in the chicken but was ruined as it had been smothered in mayonnaise and had an overpowering amount of coriander. The choice of vegetables to make up the remainder of the salad too was an odd choice.
We also ordered a chocolate milk shake. Canteen do not list their drinks on any menu and when we asked we were abruptly told as if we were bothering the staff member who was taking our order that they do milkshakes or smoothies. No description or listing of their options, and no pricing,
You could imagine the shock when we worked out the beyond average chocolate milkshake that was essentially basic chocolate syrup, milk, and ice cream had cost us around $7 - $8.
The food however had nothing on the staff, who as mentioned above had terrible attitudes which we experienced when ordering and picking up our food.
When you order you are issued with a buzzer, sent to collect your own cutlery and find your own table. For a resistant/cafe which doesn’t seem to be very busy (at least not when we went) it seems trivial for them not to serve the food to your table and to just supply the cutlery with the meals.
Our buzzer turned out to be broken, so when the staff member noticed we hadn’t collected our food she came out to let us know that there must be something wrong with our buzzer. It’s beyond me why she didn’t just bring the food when she came to tell us!
Prices for the food were a little high for what you get. $10 seems fairer. But even then I don’t know if I’d recommend it.

Read moreNice friendly place with ocean views, family environment, dog friendly, Good Customer Service & reasonably priced. Busy place but thankfully the line moved quickly enough & food didn't take too long either, buzzer alert. We were lucky enough to score a table outside, comfortable seating with umbrellas for shade as it was a sunny day, but the tables n chairs were a bit weathered. There is other food inside that was not listed on the menu we soon found out. We had Breakfast meals, bacon, eggs, hot cakes ect. Food was tasty, good portions, cooked well though the Hot Cakes were dry. Nice coffee but unfortunately the drinks from the fridge weren't cold. Food served in cardboard boxes & bamboo like cutlery, I had to pinch a metal fork from the restaurant next door 🤣, it was like nails on a chalk board for me eating with wooden utensils & the knife doesn't cut easily. (I returned the fork 😁). Overall my family & I enjoyed our dining experience & will be back. We enjoyed a scenic drive along the coast afterwards, great day...
Read moreI recently had the pleasure of dining at Canteen Trigg, and what truly sets this place apart is its stunning location and relaxed atmosphere. With the sound of the ocean in the background, it’s an ideal spot for a peaceful dinner with beautiful views.
I ordered the salmon steak with green vegetables and rice, and while the flavors were great, I found the rice to be a bit undercooked. However, the overall service was good, and I appreciated the self-service options for sauces and other condiments, making it easy to customize the meal to my liking.
I also tried their fish and chips, which were well-cooked and satisfying. For coffee lovers, you’re in for a treat – their coffee is strongly brewed and packed with flavor, earning a well-deserved five out of five in my book.
Overall, Canteen Trigg is a great option for those who appreciate a combination of great service, good food, and a beautiful setting. I would definitely recommend it to anyone looking for a lovely dining experience...
