My partner and I had an absolute amazing Christmas day, dinnner at this place, we are from Bundaberg in Queensland and we heard about this restaurant through family who live down in VIC. I am a BIG foodie at heart! I love good food! Food is also one of my passions. We had the pleasure of trying multiple dishes from, A taste of Avon. We went there a couple of times during our holiday down. The atmosphere was just beautiful, the setting of the seats were so lovely and inviting. They had a nice Christmas tree, and lights out. The service was lovely by front of house and the chefs did such an outstanding job! And the food was absolutely brilliant!! 10/10 in our families opinion. This year we plan on bringing my mum down and we plan to go there again for Christmas.
I loved the crispy grated apple on the pavlova, which is a different and unique twist on the Aussie favourite. One of the chef’s signature dishes, was the pumpkin and sweet potato, with burnt butter with pine nuts ravioli, not a big meal but so worth what is on the plate! That burnt butter was absolutely downright Amazing! We got a bunch of different plates and we shared everything on our table. The trio dips and the fresh bread with that home made basil oil!! Hands down that was so tasty. The lamb ragu was beautifully done. The crispy pork skin, can’t ever go wrong with that!! If you ever get a chance to go there, you must try their tiramisu!! If you love coffee, it’s a must. Thank you for letting us dine in this beautiful intimate restaurant. We look forward to coming and eating there again....
Read moreThe place looks amazing, with seating from comfy lounge to cosy tables for 2 and tables accommodating larger groups. Our daughter took the 3 of us out for lunch - booking a table was v easy. The friendly yet professional staff made us feel v welcome & put us at ease instantly. With so many very interesting & GF options on the menu choosing was refreshingly difficult; we ended up choosing 3 courses (which we normally never do) and were treated to a scrumptious entrée of Charred King Prawns / we choose as mains: Shaw’s Spanish Chorizo, Roasted Pumpkin (salad with home made potato gnocchi) & Lamb Ragu (hubby is not a pasta fan but he loved the tomato fettucini). We could not go past the NY Cheesecake for desert. The coffee was aromatic & tasted great. It is obvious that top quality produce (local) & in-house made foodstuffs are used in the kitchen, as the food looked and tasted amazing. It's been a long-time (if not ever) since Stratford had a very affordable restaurant of this calibre, we were pleasantly surprised with the "final outcome" (bill). We whole heartedly recommend a visit & don't wait to long before you...
Read moreWe were passing through Stratford and looking for a quick takeaway as we hade a couple of dogs travelling with us. We come upon “A Taste of Avon”. The owners were so friendly and accommodating they invited us to eat in and set us up outside away from other diners with our pups. They looked after all four of us so well. Nothing was a trouble to them. But the food eclipsed even the great hospitality! Absolutely first class - as good or better than we have had anywhere including high end Sydney places. Cindy the co owner is also incredibly well versed on fine wine. All of this and they had us in and out in about 30 minutes as they knew we were on a tight schedule. It was so good that we changed our travel plans coming back so we could visit them again. It is very rare that I put reviews up (I know I should because I regularly check out other people’s) but this restaurant and the people that own it are top of the class. I cannot recommend this place highly enough. Not what you would expect in a small country town. A...
