Please note that this review was specially written for the chef at Curry Star. The chef was kind enough to come and tell me he was doing some experiments with the biryani, including removing colours from the rice, which was a great initiative. The following is my honest feedback to the chef about the biryani he prepared for me (Chicken 65 biryani)
I recently tried the chicken 65 biryani at Curry Star Ballarat, an intriguing dish the chef was experimenting with. While the adventurous spirit is commendable, the execution fell slightly short.
The rice, while slightly overcooked initially, improved after some time. However, the lack of sufficient gravy was a significant drawback. A biryani, after all, is a harmonious blend of flavours and textures; without enough gravy, the plain basmati rice can feel a bit underwhelming.
Given the high standard of biryani offered by other local establishments, Curry Star's biryani requires further refinement to truly shine. It's a promising start, and it could become a standout dish with a little more attention to detail.

Read moreAll I can say this is a disgrace to the Indian Food Restaurants. When a business advertises serving Indian cuisine and lists the specialities of a region, they should serve it like it is served back in the origin region. I am giving my review after 2 visits to this business. Once we tried Punjabi Food and second time we tried South Indian, both of the dishes were a total disaster. After requesting for spicy level of 8 they just simply added green chilies 😄 besides the Naan was soggy.
Second time, I tried Masala Dosa and Uthapam, while both were descently acceptable, atrociously the sambhar was just thick Daal ( lentils soup). Nor was it sour neither vegetables added.
Funny thing, upon asking the management, they said we dont put many vegetables because of customers.
Wouldnt recommend this business for Indian food lovers. Unless you want to just get your stomach filled up. Also, do notice the layer of dirt on the steel vessels in which the south indian food is served. You...
Read moreAbsolutely disgraceful service. Had a lunch booking through THEFORK on Sunday 24 January, and upon attending this venue the staff member serving flatly said that their kitchen was closed. The "restaurant" is actually a space within an Indian grocery store, and within that space we noticed decorations for a "sweet 16" birthday party, yet they repeatedly refused to honour the booking. We demanded to speak to the manager over the phone, who wasn't in attendance, who simply said sorry we can't help you now, we will send a chef within 30 minutes just for you. Everybody here neglected to even mention the buffet that we were booked in for. Main point is obviously this business was more interested in the booked function than other customers, but moreover why accept bookings when you have no intention of honouring them? I urge those even considering this business, to please not visit.
Photos, and emails confirming the booking, can be supplied...
